Even the gas cap? Outrageous costs! 💰
So… my gas cap isn’t attached to the car anymore because the tether is broken. So… I will just buy a new one and replace it. So I get a few prices. Shouldn’t be too bad, right?
😂
Ummmm… is the bottom one from Amazon made of californium and a bit of antimatter? What is with the crazy prices for some of these things? Is there anything special about the gas cap? I am new to this but I’m seeing this a LOT and I keep pausing thinking … did MB make this part special in some way that makes this price possibly reasonable? I’m afraid to check OEM (or wouldn’t know where to look).
Its not - but, the reason for the super high price is so you do not order the thing they can not get. That said, I have purchased a few....they are like $30 from the dealership.
Or just use the gas cap without the tether? Vehicles in the past, such as the 1970 Chevy pickup I learned to drive in, had a gas cap without a tether. Just a thought. But get used to MB prices. Cause they are expensive.
The tether broke on my (old car) CLS a long time ago, it used to bug me back when I had the KINF syndrome, but that wore off back in 2018 when I started DD'ing it haha
I thought W222s solved that issue . Honestly , I have not seen anyone with the W222s neither here nor on the streets having fuel cap issue . My W212 acted like that . Well, I remember I had to curl lanyard around the canister lol
A couple of years ago I bought one from ebay, there are a couple of variations so check the details of your broken one, from memory I think it was this one but do check yours before buying.
If you think you are going to forget putting the gas cap back on, then closing the fuel filler door, put the gas cap on your driver’s seat, when not in use.

MB gas cap very similar in price to that of Hyundai.
Pro-tip... we MB owners are not the only ones getting violated.

Yeah this is more a fix for my wife when she fills up but also the car is in such amazing condition it’s a buzzkill to open the door and see something broken. Seems silly I guess.
Atleast it is only the gas cap. I just had a nasty little experience with my 2019 S63. Over the holidays I was 500 miles away from home in MA with 0 degree temperatures. My gas tank filler door got frozen shut--tried for a half hour in freezing temps at a gas station traveling back home to get it open. It was either tow the car and hold up my trip for a day or two or break the door open to fill gas. I decided to break the door open to fill gas. I will find out this week my costly venture as the plastic outer piece will need to be replaced and painted. This is going to be alot more expensive than a gas cap!

What a story , I think you should be carrying an ice breaker equipment to further get away similar nastiness from winter
