Night View Automatic Popup
I’ve seen a few videos where the option 610 Night View Assist comes on automatically if it’s turned on inside the head unit. So you have your normal display say Classic dials and it sees something the Night View pops up, flashes red, and highlights what it sees.
I cannot duplicate that in my 2018 S350. The only way I can make Night View work, and it works extremely well, is to always have the Night View screen up by pushing the third button above the light switch left of the steering wheel. That’s a bit of a distraction between the dials when it’s on all the time. The automatic popup when needed seems like a far better solution.
Does anyone know the trick to make that happen? My son is getting tired of me trying to run him down testing this thing. 😁
I do have Xentry if that’s required. I haven’t checked with @BenzNinja on this one yet, as it seems this should … just … work.
Mine pops up automatically, but it only does it when the lighting stalk is pushed forward. Be sure the headlight dial is in the "Auto" position and the stalk is pushed forward in the "Auto" lighting position.
I've also never seen it turn on under semi lighted conditions, normally only when really dark.

Hey Billy! Please double-check the following:
Press Home button on the steering wheel,
Select Settings, then DriveAssist, then NightView Assist
That will bring you to the NightView Assist Automatic Activation screen
Make sure the button (a box) is selected.

Yes I leave my lights in Auto always. I will try it where it is very dark and see if that makes any difference. Thank you.

I don’t think I have that screen. This is what I have… when I go to home I don’t see SETTINGS at all. I see Nav Radio Media Etc. I find the rest under VEHICLE…

Am I doing something wrong? Looking in the wrong place?
One of the best features of Night Vision is its ability to show you a perfect road view when driving in such a hard downpour that every other car has either pulled off onto the road shoulder or is driving 5 miles an hour because they cannot see anything. I live in Florida and we get downpours so strong you would think you were in a car wash set at maximum possible water pressure. This has happened to me multiple times while driving on interstates, and I can keep moving at any speed I choose by just looking at the pop-up night vision view. Next time you are in a drive-through car wash turn on your night vision and you will be shocked at the display quality if you have never seen this before. Also works the same way in dense fog.

Your settings look good.
I tested this again last night and it doesn’t pop up the Night View screen when it detects something. If it’s already up then it definitely sees my oldest son there and from an amazing distance, but it’s not great to drive around with that screen up all the time.
This car also has the Spotlight feature which he does notice as it strobes him with the light to make sure he sees the car. I don’t get the screen to pop up though - that’s all that’s missing. Can’t figure it out.

Hmmm… okay. I wish I knew what those were so I could see it once and know it would be there later. So far I haven’t seen it do this when I thought it should have.
Maybe if I find a jogger out on a very dark night I will turn back around and make a bee-line straight for him at 90mph. Gotta see if this thing works! 😁

I just found a great video showing exactly how this is supposed to function. So far we haven’t been able to make this work. Night View itself does work, but only if I manually push the Night View button and leave the infrared screen up all the time. People are highlighted in red like you’ll see here. If that screen is not already up, it does not detect then immediately display the screen automatically as seen in this video. The 3 minute mark is a perfect example of what it should do. Any ideas?

Well… I went back to look at the data card did this card and I show option 610 Night View Assist and when I look at the card itself it shows me this:
I don’t see Plus here. I think I read that the Plus part was later added so it would do the highlighting of people on the screen. Not sure where I saw that.
My car says "610 Night View Assist" but without "plus" when I look at https://www.mbdecoder.com/ I didn't think there was anything above the 610 option availabe.
I'll check the4 window sticker when I'm home in a couple days.

Again only at speed and in unlit roads will it appear automatically.

Incorrect.This will function with lighted roads as well (in town, for example). Billy, have BenzNinja look at it.

To drive your point home? Sorry, I should have clarified my response... VII you are not incorrect. You are correct regarding that for "automatic activation" of NightView, in the vanila settings that are standard in our North American vehicles, one must be in a rural or unlit environment for it to engage. However...
When Peter (a.k.a. BenzNinja) coded ILS+ on my car two years ago he also "upgraded" my NightView settings (for free) as well. He activated Animal Detection, augmented the Spotlight function, and enabled Rural plus City functionality for automatic activation. I work in a city of 100,000 and the automatic activation screen functions at night in town as well as the trip back home to the foothills. This is why I suggested to Billy to have BenzNinja look at it.

I have seen this but can’t make it work. I do feel like this must be something I am doing wrong.
After I’m done being sick I will connect back up with @BenzNinja and see if he has any more ideas. Might be another week as Texas is supposedly getting 5-10 inches of snows so it’s going to be absolutely mayhem down here.
We will be going to MD Anderson again next month and will be taking the old highways down which should give me plenty of opportunities to see if it will come up automatically, assuming there is a person or animal anywhere along the way.

Okay… you may have something here. I know he turned on City and Animal but I don’t remember Rural plus City if that’s possibly a distinct setting. I also don’t know about the Augmented Spotlight. Spotlight is working per my son.
I really do appreciate everyone thinking about this one. I’m sure we will get it resolved, and there is a 90% chance it’s just me being dumb. Trust me. 😁
