🚨 Problem with the S450! 🚨
So I couldn’t help myself and had to drive my 2018 S450 4Matic around in the snow this morning. Hey… we don’t get many chances down here in these parts! 🤠 I ain’t missing some snow day fun as my city slowly grinds to a halt. 😂
SNOWMAGEDDON IS UPON US!
PROOF: photo from my bedroom balcony - see that white stuff? 🥶 My dog is losing his mind over this white stuff!
Seriously though I have a problem. Following my joyride with death, I made an horrific discovery…
This is a terrible photo and I’ve already slipped this piece back into place. This is not the sunroof area but further in the back over the rear - I guess the rear moonroof?
I will brave the extreme weather conditions outside and get a better photo pointing out where this is exactly…
Barely made it back!
There are no leaks or anything that I can discern.
Any recommendations on how to fix this? My first thought is Elmer’s so help an idiot out please.
Sorry to hear about it, I'm not sure if that trim needs to be glued back ( if it was) but if it needs then you can use this :
3M Black Super Weatherstrip and Gasket Adhesive, 08008, 5 fl oz, 1 Per Pack from Amazon.
Good luck !

Thank you. Added that to my Amazon cart… assuming they are still able to deliver in Texas after SNOWMAGEDDON!
Second vote for the 3M weather stripping glue. The exact same thing happened/happens to my car. It first occured a couple years ago on my S550, then again on my current car a year ago, and I just used a little. Then it happened again after going through an automatic car wash, that was only a couple weeks ago and I used it again, this time more liberally. I had a tube laying around from using it on some other projects so I was familiar with the glue.

Thanks guys.
Question - do you just lightly put some on the entire length of the loose weatherstripping and stick it back in place? Is it better to apply a bit more at the end and let that keep the rest in place?
I have a feeling I will soon be glad my car is black! 🤓
Like most all adhesives, the cleaner the surfaces when appying the better the result. I did a hack job the first time, which is why it came loose the second time. I think it will come loose again because I didn't take the time to clean out the channel before using the glue. I plan to do it well in the Spring when the weatehr gets better. If you want to do it right, pull it loose several inches beyond where it's currently loose then clean the channel thoroughly. You can start with a mild cleaning solution, then use some alcohol to get it completely clean. The glue works best when it gets a little tacky, so apply the glue to the channel with a fairly generous bead, then wait 2-3 minutes before you press in the rubber strip. Some glue will ooze out of the edges, you can use a paper towel and more alcohol to remove the overflow.

This is great. Thanks so much for detailing how you did that. Not sure why but it didn’t occur to me to clean that out first. I’m sure you saved me from doing this again, possibly needing to redo it somewhere along a trip without the adhesive. 👍

That's "snowmageddon?" That's only a very light dusting which nobody should be concerned about.
In 1978, we got 2 feet in less than 2 days with snow drifts that went up onto the roof. We were actually sledding off the roof. It was a great time to be a kid as we carved out multi-room snow forts.
In 2011 we had more than 20 inches of snow in just a few hours and over 3 days it totaled over 30 inches. Lake Shore Drive in Chicago (a major throughway) literally turned into a parking lot for several miles as several hundred people just abandoned their cars in the middle of the road.

Update - this stuff worked perfectly. The weatherstripping is kind of hooked into this slot so it wasn’t extremely easy to get out at first. But now that it’s in there with this 3M goop I’m pretty sure it will be in there forever.
