When my neighbor got his everybody was over there looking at it and admiring it, nobody had any interest in my S580. Just today one of my agents got a new Mustang Mach E and we were walking out to see it, a white i7 was parked and he pointed it out and said totally unprompted how much he loved that car.

This generation 7 is also outselling the S Class for the first time ever, so more people like it than you think.
I don’t know if that’s special for the i7 in particular, or just the brand…. But, I’d say that almost every BMW will get way more compliments than any other car/brand out there. I’ve never received that many compliments about any of my S-class cars compared to any of my BMWs in the past. My current BMW looks so special so I get that, but even my X7 and X5 in the past would get much more compliments than my GLS. BMWs have much more presence than MBenz cars.

Perhaps that's because current BMW's are loud and boisterous looking. Whereas MB's of the previous generation were simple and elegant, and now the current gen looks vanilla and boring with nothing to distinguish them from any other boring looking cars/SUV's.

I wonder if that is region dependent though. The compliments I mean. Or there are more bmw enthusiasts in your area.

I guess when you think of Mercedes, you think of a business wo/men with a business atire. Or someone being very serious. Or an old wo/men. So I guess people are less enthusiastic about it.

Guess we could be hopeful bmw's design language to get better again https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W61UU-AabmY

They do stand out. Mercedes tried being different with the EQS sedan I get there is a lot of hate online but several of my friends have one and they say they get compliments on the EQS sedan as well.

I heard something years ago that has always stuck with me;

BMW: The car everyone else wants you to drive
Mercedes: Let's do lunch, my treat

I doubt it... In the past 8 years alone, I've lived in 3 different states (all the way from east coast, midwest, to the west) and have always had both brands.

I don't think they've ever taken a step back, at least in the eyes of their fan base. It's been great and still getting better and better. People love the new X7 design with split headlights, and the new 7-series despite in my view being a truly ugly sedan, it is selling really well (better than the S) and people loved it. The interior is gorgeous. The new 5-series is doing well too. That's how it goes with every new generation that BMW released over the years.

Yeah... I like to refer to it as the difference between a slim-fit or modern slim-fit suit versus a classic fit suit. Both can be elegant, but one is is more eye-catchy than the other. BMW's surely have more presence in a parking lot.

Didn't the Korean or was it Jeep started the split headlight design, I understand there were criticism with that design, from what I read in this thread, so they are going back to non-split headlight design?

This is what I would get:

That is a nice build. It's got just the right mix of chrome and black trim pieces. The wheels work too.

If this were Carmax, I'd scoop it up immediately for the warranty, even though we're looking at the S560.

Stream, why not pick it up for (relatively) cheap and have your favorite ever luxury sedan back?
It’s a wonderful car, but after driving electric for the past several months, I can’t go back. Electric cars are absolutely perfect for me.

You know, I'm not thrilled with the exterior design myself, but the car drives so great, that I just don't pay that much attention to the exterior. I also like the fact that the number of other "Luxury" trim models like mine that I have seen on the road, I could count on one hand. It is a very unusual looking car, even compared to most other current 7 Series models. Then, talk about the interior! The seats are "THE" most comfortable I have ever experienced and BMW could "school" other makers--including MB--on how to make massage seats. I almost never used the massage feature in my MB's, mostly because it was so lackluster. In my I7, the massage feature is absolutely wonderful and I use it quite a bit. Lastly, electric propulsion is something that most every luxury sedan should have. It is silent, incredibly quick and just transforms the driving experience. Passing up the $6.00 a gallon gas stations is also quite attractive. I cannot wait for MB to make a REAL S Class EV, not to mention seeing the I7 refresh.

What ruins that silent propulsion will be rattles and squeaks, hopefully there are not any. As everything seems amplified in such interior.

My car has absolutely not even the slightest rattle, squeak or unauthorized sound coming from the interior. The only complaint I have is tire noise on less than perfect asphalt and I attribute that to the OEM tires.

This really isn't an issue with modern BMWs, they are really solid. Mercedes has a lot more issues with rattles and creaks.

All BMWs I’ve owned since 2016 had absolutely no rattles. They were all very well put together that I can even hear the seat-belt in the other seats moving but no rattles or squeaks at all. My W222 was great but still not as great as any of my BMWs including SUVs.

It brings out everything quite a bit, though that's also true of the luxury tier of cars in general since ICE are so quiet these days. You learn that a car has a million servo motors, screens, and hvac blower fans, (brake squeal -- if applicable) that have the potential to create extremely annoying high tones. I have some hearing issues and never found my e-tron or Ford Lightning to be comfortable on the ears. I think BMW is among the very best for least amount of drive unit noise -- but even so Consumer Reports knocked them for this on the i5 and i4, though the i7 gets a rave review in this regard.

I would love to buy another EV. Frankly that was my only real problem with them. I LOVED everything else, like charging at home, preconditioning, etc. Even the heft of an EV contributes to the feeling of quality. That said, despite most reviews praising the e-tron's ride, I always found it to be unnerving and jittery. Motor trend agreed. You really can't trust reviewers half as much as actual owners, and in EV-land owners are a bit high on the kool aid. Less so for the top models where they aren't coming from a 12 year old civic.
