2015 merecedes s550 timing cover leak

Good evening everyone, I'm new to MB Forums, so please be patient with me. I have recently been told by a indy mechanic that I have a leak to the timing covers , and so the thermostat and the coolant lines need to be replaced to get to the timing covers. Is this true?

They need to be removed to get to the valve covers, but not necessarily replaced. If the hoses are still soft & pliable and the thermostat is still working fine, then replacement isn't necessary. Most mechanics who work on these older Benz' automatically assume that the turbo hoses are going to be brittle and fall apart in their hands when they remove them. This is definitely true in many cases. But I had my timing cover changed out earlier this year at 52k miles and the hoses were still in good order. Turbo coolant lines are not usually super expensive, so if there is any doubt on the condition, just replace them.

MB batteries usually have the date code stamped or laser-etched on the case often near the top. Format varies by brand: Varta uses a letter (A-L for month) + digit (year), Bosch uses a 6-digit (YYMMDD), and MB originals may have a sticker with a Julian date (YYDDD). Check sides or terminals if not on top.
