DOES A RADAR DETECTOR WORK IN OUR CARS
I have a burning question.
I love running radar and have owned several top of the line ones that have saved me from a fat ticket more than a few times.
The question I have is, does a radar detector work in our cars?
I know the glass is made from super special 'stuff', but I note 2 spots, one on the bottom and one on the top that appear to be 'dotted' and was wondering if that's 'the way for a radar to see out.
What do you all think/know?

The metal coating in the windshield will block most of the radar and radio waves. Those cutouts are for toll tags, because they have the same issue, but a radar detector can be mounted there too if the cutout is large enough and the antenna has a good enough view out.

I have an R3 mounted at the lower pass-through and an R3 on wife’s Gle w/o IR front rear windshield.
Both detect forward Ka at the same range (when driving by known speed trap).
As for rear detection, I never paid attention to when and where signal drops but it absolutely picks up radar approaching from behind

@superpop uses one from Escort that is hardwired into his car. Maybe he will chime in on how well it's worked on his 19 W222.

I have a 5 year old Escort Max 360 with Escort ZW5 laser jammers. I also use Waze. This layered approach has resulted in no tickets in the past 10 years or more. My RD is mounted just to the left of my rear view mirror and there is a window in that spot that lets radio waves pass through. A radar detector alone can help a little but it really depends on where you are driving. On the freeway in Washington the state patrol almost exclusively uses laser guns to measure speed. The jammers have saved me from a ticket more than a few times in the past where a radar detector would have just told me that I just got a ticket. Waze is also very effective if there are other users on the road.

I love the layered approach. I am in NJ,. NJSP use radar, pace you with other cars, its all fair game here.
Waze is great, I run it all the time.
I am going to look into the mounted options for hardwire install in the grille.
