Safety Warning Systems Inactive/New Windshield (Magic Body Control)

Hey All

Driving my vehicle on the highway this morning and my Lane Keep Assist/Blind Spot Inactive lights came on. Went out to check at lunch and the warnings still show. Also - the one touch blinker function for my passenger side is very sporadic. Any idea what this might be?

I did have a windshield replaced last month (which was an ordeal because I have MBC system). Do you think this may have something to do with the calibration? Maybe a failing AUX battery?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

I dunno....how old are your batteries? Any water incursion into a SAM module?

Many weird electrical behaviors trace back to the aux battery ... I'd start there first

It's almost certainly the windshield replacement. The camera behind the mirror needs to be recalibrated after a new windshield is installed. That one shop that knows how to handle Magic Body Control should do the calibration for you. The auxiliary battery could also be a cause if it's failing.

OP get it plugged into Xentry and learn what is really missing.

It may or may not be related to the windshield install. Hopefully wiring didn’t get cut or connectors tugged on to point of damage.

You're on the right track with your hypothesis about the causes. I live in Seattle and always get blind spot or LKA errors this time of year. It's happened every year for the last 4 years with 2 different W222s. I just got one a couple days ago and it was a reminder to get a car wash. That cleared my errors up just like in other years.

Having said that; I did get the wrong windshield installed once, but the errors happened immedeately so they swapped out the windshield the next day. And, your errors are very consistent with aux battery going bad.

Go figure - Car was error free this morning! I did clean a little debris off the grille sensor but it was very small. Safelite did the calibration/replacement at the end of October. They said it was a "Dual Calibration" (whatever that is) so it took double the normal time.

I have an appointment set for them to take a look next week - Hoping I do not have to go to MB of Tacoma.

Ironically I had the car on a tender about a week ago - forgot all about that silly Aux battery in the trunk. Looks like a fairly easy diy.

Thank you for your help!

Changing the aux battery for about $50 is one of the quickest and least expensive troubleshooting steps for strange electrical behavior!

The battery is a great deal. Just make sure to get different nuts and bolts to attach to the terminals before you attempt to install it. The nuts that come with it are too big to fit under the square terminals and if you try to install it with the supplied hardware you will be cursing for an hour or so. The the right nuts and bolts it’s like a 15 minute job. Just get the right nuts and bolts when you take the battery out of the box. Not sure why the nuts are too big that come with it to fit under the square terminals but they are. Plus no threads in the terminals like an oem battery.

That's a Kmart quality battery. Comes with a 1 year warranty....That's a joke in itself.

Truly amazing how people can spend 6 figures on a car and then go out and buy the cheapest replacement parts they can find for critical components.

The logic is just baffling.

Update - Almost scared to say anything but the car has been functioning flawlessly with regard to this - I am however having a different issue that I will state in another post. This car is trying to kill me.

Thank you to all that replied.

Watching this as I am getting a new windshield next week at Safelite in Bellevue. It is the original OEM windshield and I have told Safelite I want the replacement to be OEM as well. It says OEM on the work order so hopefully it is OE glass.

I replaced my aux battery with that Amazon battery two years ago and it’s been fine for two years now. Your gonna have to replace that aux battery every three or four years anyhow no matter what battery you put in there. Some of the newer s63s take a lithium battery in there and those last longer but don’t try that on the S550s or S560s. They are not setup to take a lithium battery.

Every 3-4 years? Only if you keep buying Kmart quality batteries with a 1 year warranty.
Buy a premium quality battery for your premium quality car and you will not need to change the battery until 6-7 years have past if you take care of it and don't abuse it.

Your referring to the starter battery, not the auxiliary battery. Some OLDER W222 S63's and all of the S65's came from the factory with Lithium starter batteries and if properly cared for can last 15 years.
The auxiliary battery is and always has been a standard AGM type.
My 2019 S65 still has the original batteries. I did a health check on them earlier this year and they were both in great condition. I keep it stored in a conditioned space and always on a specific CTEK charger if parked for more than 3 days.
I know that I'm near the time when the auxiliary battery will start to weaken and will check it again in the spring and probably change it out before it starts to cause any issues.

Thanks!

Curious how the windshield replacement worked out with safelite. Did you get OEM glass?

Did it have Carl's signature in the corner?
I recall reading that the signature is only on factory installed glass. Some have replacement OEM glass but no signature.

Not sure yet, she goes under the knife on Monday. I will report back but I did tell them already that it had to be OEM glass to ensure the safety systems all work properly.

Just picked up my car from Safelite and it looks great. They did use OEM glass but it does say Mercedes in cursive instead of the "Carl Benz" so they must reserve that for original, original or they just changed the design. Not sure but safelite did say they were required to utilize OEM glass only because of the safety systems. So far so good and everything seems to work fine. $3600.00 later and it looks like new again. Now I will probably get another rock chip.

I'm glad it worked out for you!! My new windshield says "Carl Benz" instead of the previous "Mercedes" in cursive. I noticed that it has a cutout in the bottom center of the windshield for what I'm guessing is a radar detector (I'm not crazy about the look). Final detail is the 2 horizontal lines in the cutout for my Magic Body Control Sensors. Everything works fine so no complaints here

Can you believe that on Tuesday I was riding up I-5 near Tacoma and a rock flew up? Needless to say I was puckered until we parked. Thankfully no chip/crack as of yet. I have never replaced a windshield in my life until I moved to Washington State.

Cheers my friend and I hope you are staying safe with all this flooding!
