S560 725.015 Transmission Service

Just completed a transmission service on my 2018 S560. First time servicing so I took my time but ended up being quite simple. Have a set of extended wheelbase QuickJacks to lift the car so I try and do as much servicing as I can on my own. Bought all OEM parts, a specialty took kit from Amazon for the drain plug positions and filling fitting, and a simple hand transmission fluid pump. Drained about 8.5-9 liters from the trans and torque converter. At 37,800 miles the fluid still looked pretty good.

I have a Xentry pass through software and WIS on my old laptop so that allowed me to monitor the trans temp and torque everything back to proper spec. Don’t be intimidated or pay $1,500 for a service if you have the time and are decently handy!

Also knocked out a diff fluid exchange while I was at it. Stuff smells horrendous, almost made my fiancé throw up.

ya the diff oil does smell pretty bad I use to own a quick lube and I always hated that stuff.

good job. I’m convinced with these older cars like the Benz if you can’t work on it yourself you probably shouldn’t own one. That would be me. I’m getting to old to work on cars. Recently traded mine in for a new Audi but hated to part with the S560. It served me well.

Funny you called it an "older car." Feels so fresh to me but in reality you're correct, she'll be ten years old sooner rather than later. I prefer doing my own work not only to make sure its done right, but I do get satisfaction out of it. Cars are far and away my life (in the car industry myself) however I don't work on them for a living so its rare I get to do these things. I find it a good way to disconnect from the Matrix. Didn't check my phone for the four hours it took and I love that.

Also too happy to see there is zero evidence of any type of leak. I know the RMS is a huge issue and she's bone dry.

I was brave enough for the oil change, brake system flush, and rear diff fluid change, but took my car to a tranny/auto repair shop for the tranny service. It cost me $730 with tax included. If I had bought the oil change kit from FCP Euro it would have been around $550 with tax, so I decided to let someone else do it and spend a couple hundred more than DIY. Plus, it was an audition of sorts for the repair shop. But congratulation on taking it on yourself. And double congrats on the dry RMS area. Mine was also dry when I did the oil and diff change a couple months ago. Congrats on takling the job!

Very happy to find that. I can understand not wanting to do it, especially if the MCT 9 speed procedure is different. I am able to get parts at cost through work so it cost me a little less than $300 for everything.

I just had diff, transfer case and trans fluid changed in my 2018 GLE350 at 60K miles. I used the Fuchs ATF and parts from FCP. I didn't use the kit, as I wanted the genuine parts. (especially the pan gasket).
My 2016 S550 is next, as it's at 55K miles, I can even use the remaining ATF from the GLE service. Going to order the same parts from FCP euro. Unfortunately, I'm in between living accommodations and can't perform the work myself, so my trusty euro mechanic gets the work for now.

Good job doing this yourself! I bought a 4post lift 8 years ago now and it has more than paid for itself in driveline servicing!

Next house will have a a proper lift, promise you that. The QuickJacks are good a solution for the time being, best garage purchase I’ve ever made.
