I think the preface lift do look better with the sport package.

I would venture to guess that the production costs to produce the AMG body panels & wheels are not ten cents more than what it costs to produce the standard parts. MB has truly found a gold mine of extra profit by convincing so many people that opting for the AMG packages will somehow make them look and drive like James Hunt as they cruise down the boulevard.

Well now I know who James Hunt was. Didn't before this post. More of a Senna era.

I would never have bough the standard S as to me it looked cheap with the base wheels and no AMG styling but that is a personal choice.

Look at any model besides the S and you will see a huge grille with a HUGE emblem in the center of it that even lights up. The LOOK AT ME I have a Mercedes group. The S is still bought by 50 and up crowd looking for a safe design. It will be interesting to see what the new model will have but I will wager the emblem will be larger and the hood star missing but avail as an option.

Mercedes is switching to sport vs luxury.
Well, demographics are changing too. Since so many S-Class models are purchased in China and their average age appears to be 37, the overall average age has come down dramatically from it's 60+ demographic.

FWIW, I prefer the look of the sport package/wheels. Obviously the price is a rip-off on the material side (expect the costs to be within a few hundred Dollars; primarily for wheels, tires, electronics) but I have seen much worse. Just look at the Porsche 911 sport package. Almost $7k for slightly updated bumpers/side skirt...

i was at my dealer today, and he showed me the screens that are now up for taking pre-orders for the 223. here's a few tidbits for you:
1/ exteriour colours were the normal suspects except iridium silver is now 'hightech silver" and "rubellite red" was a new addition;
2/ interiour colours now add saddle, bengal red, and crystal grey (returns);
3/ amg package remained at $5,900

My question to Wolfman was, is that a US thing or is the same true in Germany?
I wish I would know the answer to that. I looked around but there is very little statistical information on options. My personal gut-check would be maybe 10% Classic? In Germany, the avantgarde is the base car, then comes the luxury (classic grill/star) and then the AMG line.
In the US, the pre-facelift W213 E-Class already had the AMG styling by default and the classic was actually more expensive ($350). The E-Class $650 AMG style consisted only the wheels/brakes...

no. but you can configure one. then once the banks open (i'm guessing sept after the official reveal?), the dealer submits the configuration and you're in queue.

And you still get the star on the hood in either case.
We were talking about the E Class though

You were looking at the configurator for the 2021 S 560 A convertible. Same car as the 2020 model. There is no information on the 223.

You're right and I agree that the AMG Line option is a much better deal on the E than on the S.

We will see on the 12th of August. There will be an official S-Class interior reveal. So far, not much has been shown and the MBUX demo rig apparently doesn't have the full interior setup. So my hope is more many more elaborate and luxurious interior options...
These partial reveals are somewhat annoying but I understand that Mercedes is not doing an official launch as previously due to COVID.

Actually I'm surprised they've revealed what they have. I would have thought they would have kept things much tighter sealed.

Agree, I really hope they add some warmth and luxury to the interior.

The coupes typically lag the sedans by a year. There was a 2014 CL550

I don't understand this. Manufacturing for the coupe/cab is ending this month in Germany...

2019 E300 Luxury Package 2020 GLS 450
Here is a video that shows more interior and Exterior details up close. It is in german but the captions are mostly coherent. At 4:52 there are interior angles that confirm Red will be an interior option so it seems ajm0623's list could be accurate. In addition this car also seems to be equipped with the Executive rear seat package with individual rear seats. I find the red to be tacky but in a color other than black the interior looks a bit less bland. Excited to see a saddle brown or lighter beige. Worryingly this car has piano black trim all over it and I have yet to see any real wood trims in the prototypes shown so far. Hopefully more high end trim options will be available at launch. Personally I would love to see the return of the Designo metallized ash wood trim and the crystal grey leather.

I love red interiors, but mostly on convertibles & sporting cars. This shade of red, especially when paired with acres of black, does look tacky to me as well. I’ve always thought of “half black” interiors to be cheap looking—and they ARE! MB saves a ton of money by producing more than half of the interior panels and associated upholstered bits ONLY in black. Cost cutting at its finest and on the MB “flagship” model to boot!

MB used to do colored interiors right:

Bentley still does:

Yes, those are 2021 models. there was a short run of 21 Coupes and Cabs. The Netstar configurator shows the 21 Coupe and Convertible as buildable. There is no info on the 21 Sedan

Beware that this last run of (MY21) C217 and A217 models are limited editions.....and not in a good way, but for legal reasons lack several autonomous driving features (see other thread).

Don't like the gloss black touch sensitive buttons on the doors though. Have that in Panamera. The matte real buttons in the Benz are better.
