But at least with the S, the base is AirMatic, which is pretty nice.

No, Mercedes is being intentionally tight-lipped. They are guarding this tech quite hard, being on record as saying they would license their air suspension to other manufacturers, but not their magic body control or similar.

Keep in mind that this suspension has different feature sets as its in a SUV with off-road use...
I've looked. There is nothing there beyond marketing blurbs. I skimmed the article you linked, and there is a lot of information on what it does, but very little information on how it works. "Based on Airmatic", but also with active hydraulic dampers.... what? Is there a pump in the engine like with ABC? Did they forego the nitrogen spheres and just use the "Airmatic" part? And how on earth does it regenerate electricity from the road to use "half the energy cost of prior s-class models"...? Oh, and why does it use the 48-volt system? Are there electromagnets in there as well, or do they have an electric hydraulic pump?

So many questions, so few answers.

"Nur Schweben ist besser." = "Only floating is better."

And that is precisely what I'm looking for at the moment.
MBC works great with my 20", but I got accustomed to it, so it's really nothing special anymore. I'm ready for more. I want something even better and I want it now.

I prefer classic sedans, so GLS is not an option.

Which leaves me with Audi’s predictive active suspension. There are electric motors located close to each of the A8’s wheels, titanium rods, transverse force reduction... The works!

Is an Audi really a glorified Volkswagen? Probably not, so I don't think I'll be holding my horses any longer.

Is this the end of the Hydropneumatic suspension from Mercedes?
No.

E-ABC is an electro-hydraulic suspension system. A key difference is the 48-volt system powers the pump. Previously, the pump was belt-driven. The engine no longer needs to be taxed directly to power the Active Body Control System.

But the system still uses hydraulic pressure to exert forces via hydropneumatics. The other major difference is the previous ABC systems were previously not based on air.
