Deadline for Order Changes

Hi, if one has a December production date WV223 order/slot, approximately when is the cutoff date for change orders to options?
Any clarity would truly be appreciated.

If memory serves, the production lock occurs with B3 status. Typically a week before production.

I have not heard any date more specific than the first half of 2021 officially (other than opinion)
My take is that the orders are changeable well into the beginning of next year.

If you hear that your order gets B0 status (19 days to production) you better make up your mind

EDIT: Overlooked your December suggestion but the same logic applies. B1 status is the last call (13 Days to production)

Just did some checking and found a February date listed for the S580 for the US. A couple months later for Europe. We'll see if that holds...

Wow you got a December production date? May I ask how you were able to get that? Is that for a U.S. model?

Thanks for your time and effort!
Sorry for newbie question but is status accessible by customer or only dealer? And if so, which I doubt, how?

In the US, this info is available via the dealer. In Germany you can follow the manufacturing progress real-time via the Mercedes Me login...

FYI, the reason for my original question is that I’m in a bit of a predicament. I have an allotment for a December production WV223 which is pretty much loaded except for a few unneeded options such as rear compartment cool box.
Our country exclusive dealer has a certain number of allotments for December. Of those, MB Germany informed dealer that due to supply chain issues 100 of them will not have Augmented Reality HUD (option 445). They negotiated with them and reduced to 45 cars.
Problem is I’ve been informed that my car is one of the 45!
I’m not sure how they they chose which cars, but I think it’s a bit unfair especially since my order is for a practically fully loaded car and for a person that is totally into high tech and was one of the features really looking forward to. I would think they would choose the low spec orders instead of fully loaded.
So far I’ve only spoken to my sales rep who says my only option is to delay order to next dealer order window for sometime in mid-2021 (they only been allotted November/December production and next production slot is Q2 2021]. I’m not sure what recourse I have but plan to escalate.
Any thoughts or suggestions would truly be appreciated.
(apologies if I was long winded)

If you are into high-tech, one thing you may want to consider is that it seems that E-Active Body Control is also delayed until at least mid-2021. I am in a similar situation as you, buying a fully-loaded S580 and I decided that it makes sense to wait for E-ABC since advanced suspension is so core to the S-class experience.

I agree with the sentiment of others. If you already order the car to your liking, you better get exactly what you want.

6 months in the scope of multi year ownership is no big deal plus you might add other options as they become available.

Good luck!

Thanks guys for your input. Waiting is definitely an option but would mean taking delivery around end of 2021, so really over a year from now andI’m in dire need of a car refresh and have kept stalling for over a year deciding between 2020 750Li/A8 but settled on waiting for 2021 S class.
However, my main point, is what recourse/actions I could possibly take to have them switch my order to one with the AR HUD? I have a feeling I don’t have much choice other than accept without it or delay, but maybe there is a “long shot” suggestion I could find in this forum.

I wouldn't expect this to be at the end of 21 in any way. Keep in mind that this isn't a low production sports car but a high production luxury sedan. They will be pushing these out by the tens of thousands coming out of a brand new factory. S-Classes have never been rare unless there is a one-of Designo Manufaktur order and even those will be processed faster.
