I was thinking the same. I do not understand what it costs to produce a car but I have to believe that hard costs on this car are cheaper long term than putting together switchgear and such. The greatest cost in a car like this is probably the R&D.Originally Posted by SilberGrau57

Is this with inflation factored in?
Also, the W223 S450 outside the US is a 4 cylinder. The W222 S450 was a V6, the new W223 S500 is an inline 6.

The s450s was inline 6 in 222 and is inline 6 in 223. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but the only 4 cylinder S Class' are the 221 S250s and the facelift Chinese s350 petrol.Originally Posted by YasS

Sorry, switch gear will be cheaper to produce than the tech in the car. That stuff is cheap.I assume even the LED interior lighting will cost more than the switch gear. As for the screens, they won't be that cheap either (low volume custom OLED screens)... Removing buttons was certainly a purpose-driven decision not due to cost cutting as can be seen on the remaining switch gear which is non-conductive touch (non-moving parts) only.Originally Posted by SilberGrau57

Correct. Don't know where people get their info from... Only 6 cylinder engines in the W223 S-Class. Even the S450 engine (not coming to the US) is a new EQ hybrid engine; nothing like the old V6. The S500 is a high performance version of the same engine and a step up from the old and new S450, hence the higher price...

The W222 S450 is a TT V6 though, replaced with the W223 S500 EQ inline 6.
They did offer a 4 cylinder W222 in some markets, like the Middle East:
I'm sure they will offer one with the W223 in the future.
