I am starting to feel that the W223 is nothing more than a “stop gap” vehicle to mark time while MB puts the huge push towards their EQS & other electric vehicles. They have obviously saved the excitement factor for the EQS and I am quite sure that they would MUCH prefer that former S Class customers go for an electric. They felt they needed to continue the S Class in the more traditional manner, at least for now, as they didn’t want all the old, traditional guys running over to BMW or Audi. When you look at what appears to be a true lackluster interior design and some odd exterior elements, you just have to wonder what their real motives are.

Owning a w222 and looking at the 223 I dont find it appealing but I dont find it revolting also. I think they should launch the S63e and S73e with the MBUX hyper screen as an option. I dont like the tail or head lights of the w223 but if the Hyper screen was included then I will start saving my dollars for it. For right now its no reason to upgrade from my w222, its almost a w222.5 as is now in look and feel. I know underneath the surface its a definite upgrade but cosmetically it looks like a very minor upgrade or even on the same playing field. I would have loved an evolution of the w222 with unique tail and headlights not CLA headlights and tailights.

Love the W222 but like the looks of the W223 better. It looks more modern to me and it's designed for a younger (as in 20 years younger) audience as the prior models. Reason is the sharp decline in average buyer age of S-Class models. The thing that bothers me the most in the black plastic center console. I was originally hoping for it to be metal at least but it makes no sense especially with the wood/striped aluminum trim. The EQS has it in the same wood and that's how it should be.
Same for the large black plastic insert in the steering wheel. Who needs that?

E55Greasemonkey; Saw one in person today. Pretty underwhelming. Looks like the 222 with A-class tail lights. The interior was ok, but the 222 looks more interesting inside. For a flagship model, the exterior is nothing but a blob, no "wow" factor.
abhatti55; Demo car came through our dealer for a few hours yesterday. Very boring and disappointed by it. Cheaper materials are masked by an iPad screen, ambient lighting, and tacky 4D speaker grills everywhere. Interior fit and finish were definitely inferior to the new W222 S560 parked next to it. Glad I went to see it as I will be cancelling my order.
MBZFAN55; However, I am still concerned about the overall similarity between the S, E & C classes. It's probably good for the C-Class buyers but not so good for the S-Class market. I get the feeling that members of this forum are trying hard to make the W223 more "wow" than it may actually be.
Streamliner; When you look at what appears to be a true lackluster interior design and some odd exterior elements, you just have to wonder what their real motives are.

.
I am passing and keeping my w222's until the engineering and accounting teams figure out something better.
I really like the EQS, but I am not ready for a fossil fuel charged electrically driven car.... "where the green at???!!!!???"

Very interesting hearing your guys' opinions as you get to see the car... I always felt as if the 223 was not quite the upgrade I hoped for. Will wait to give final impression when I see one in person the flesh though.
I do think the EQS when specced correctly has the possibility to be a looker... electric wouldn't be too bad. If I want noise that's what the Jag is for .

While I desire a w223 I got to See more pics of single color EQS it is awful worst than what I thought, It needs the two tone badly and and its still really awful. I dont know what MB was thinking. It is really one of the worst designed bubble cars on the market. It looks like 2010 Chevy Impala had a baby with a 2005 Ford Taurus . I can honestly say this may be the worst exterior designed car in MB history to me. I mean worst than current Gen BMW awful. Wow, this design has to be designated for the chinese market specifically, because if you put it next to a 05 ford taurus you would think its a evolution of that car. I hope MB keeps the ice design based S class for many years to come. Because that EQS is a atrociously designed.

The BMW M760i is looking more and more interesting alternative, great performance, and one of the last remaining V12 engines at a very attractive price point.
Actually, there is nothing with V12 that would be even close pricewise to it, Audi was supposed to offer the A8 W12 but is no where to be seen, the closest in price is the Flying Spur but it is a $100k more in reality.
Possibly a Maybach S680 but $80-$100k more also.
