36 years old w223 s class
Hello all,
I currently own a 2014 range rover autobiography, thinking to change to s400 amg new shape. Given that I have children, I need a four door car. Do you think that the s class is an old mans car? Too old school for my age? How old are you guys who bought the w223?

I have been buying new S class cars since I was in my mid 30s and now I am a few “hairs” shy of 60. I never really cared what other people thought if I was driving an “old man’s car” but if you keep buying these cars like I have it eventually is an old man’s car.

I think a 26 years old W223 is a fake, don't go for it.
I don't think the age of current (soon to be) W223 owners is relevant. You should ask how old they were when they bought their first S-class. If I remember right, Chucky was hardly 20 years old for his first (new) W221. Do you start to feel too old for a W223?

no.
i had my first one in my early 20s. some of mates would question me if i was trying to 'prove' something to others by driving such a big expensive car; i just laughed at their uninformed ignorance. and *many* decades later now, i still have a new one in the garage - buying a new one every 2-3 years. have had many others (911s, m4s, various amgs, g-rig) in addition to supplement the s that have come and gone, but will always own the s. there is nothing else like it.

S class is no old mans car. I've driven an S-class throughout my 20's. BUT, I also have a Range Rover Supercharged LWB, and while I love the S-class the Range Rover is the better overall vehicle especially if you need the extra room.

Mid 30s for my first S class (W220)
It would be difficult to have any other car as my primary transport... Although I was pondering a new styled Lincoln for about five minutes a few years ago
I personally feel the 223 is a step backwards in styling but that’s for another thread
If you like it and can afford it you won’t look back...

I had these same questions when I got my w222. At the end of the day the idea that the s class is an old mans car comes from the fact that it is not a race car, and back in the day most who could afford an S class had some grey hairs lol. I say all that to say, buy what you like. I got my W222 at 25 and it was the best car decision I have ever made. Just be careful...once you own an S class you will not want anything else.

Old Man's Car?
All the movie stars in Hollywood are barely of legal age and the first thing those people do is run out and buy a MB S class, after all, what non-self respecting movie star would be seen without one. I suppose the point is simple as many of our friends in MB World have already made, if you can afford it go for it, but, if you have to go into hock to buy, don't, just buy what you can afford. This country's already bankrupt, don't follow the idiot politicians path to the bankruptcy court.

Is it an "old mans car"? Yes. Should you care? No.

S was always, is now and looks like it always will be, the benchmark of luxury, comfort, safety and performance.
It is relatively expensive so obviously the majority of it's buyers are financially secure folks and you find them mostly in the more "mature" group then among the younger crowd.
Definitely not an "old man car" though but rather a sign of success and achievement by the person who owns it.

Honestly just like the rest here says, buy what you enjoy and passionate for. Dont worry too much about age and what others think. Heck I am same age as you 36 yo and I am still single and bought a loaded new 2021 Audi RS7 and that car is wild. I am an Audi guy in addition to Mercedes and I just helped my dad build and placed the order for a 2022 Mercedes S580 AMG 4matic. Super excited for this car to replace his aging 2012 Audi A8l.

Am still young 41 years , the reason why I got S class because its fully smart and went more with digitization I have doubt that if old can manage with the new features, I am really enjoying this car and it fit and more elegance on me, my previous car was Audi RS3 8V Sedan.

I started with a 420SEL at 38 and have had every new S-Class model since then. Every few years I think about an Audi, BMW, or other "option" and I always get myself together and return to the MB dealer for the S-Class. After you drive one, it's tough to drive anything else.

Aftermarket wheels solve all grey issues Or just anodize originals to bronz or paint bright silver.
OEMs are very boring though very high quality. I saw some very nice OEM Maybach or Pullman wheels that would look amazing refinished.
Wheels are like a man's accessory.....stodgy rolex is equivalent to OEMs. Remember these cars are mainly targeting hotel limos and Sr civil servant govt vehicles in ROW.
Asian ballers travel in luxury vans with three secretary eye candy while Russian G500 is favorite and rest just use helicopters.
