There’a a “liter” version that has missing the rapid heating back seats (DU3) and is only $3,150, but few have to have that.

- Update: As you are aware, MBUSA is experiencing challenges with the availability of semiconductor components due to the worldwide shortage. This has caused the addition and/or removal of certain options on vehicles. A summary of the changes is below and apply to the S500 4MATIC and S580 4MATIC:
- 201- 4.5 Degree Rear Axle Steering is not available to order until further notice

2020 S560 Sedan, 2019 SL450, 2019 E450 Luxury Trim Wagon, '24 BMW I7 on order...
So, what does this do for MBUSA’s made up “Executive Line?” I feel the 10 degree rear axle steering option was virtually the ONLY reason someone might order that “model.”

The axle steering cuts were disappointing, but the bad news isn't over. Today they have cut all but 3 interior upholstery options.
I have included a visual reference at the bottom.

Honestly, as I have posted many times before, MB is trying to be everything to everybody and in the end, the luxury experience is really taking a hit. I know all the excuses, but if MB didn't have to have a "coupe" version of every SUV, didn't build the A Class or the B Class or even the C Class and didn’t insist on having AMG versions of virtually every model, perhaps the luxury experience would still be alive and well at the home of the 3-Pointed Star. Three, bottom of the barrel interior choices for their flagship sedan. What's next? A four cylinder W223? Sheesh!

What's interesting is that those are the only options on the 580. You can't get base leather on a V8, only Nappa and above. So I have to assume the 580 is being temporarily suspended.
I actually have to disagree on this being really bad on MB. The reality is, we're living in unprecedented times, and this is far from an MB issue. Upholstery does not seem to be chip related, but chips aren't the only thing short. I don't know exactly where MB sources their leather from, but it's highly possible this is due to the war going on in eastern Europe. Yes, it sucks to have cars being built with missing fragrance dispensers or steering rear wheels (since when was steering the fronts not enough?) or seats that pulse large air pockets to your back, but what's the alternative? MB building no cars at all, or at least fewer. I know which I'd prefer.
Also, I fail to see how the fact that MB sells GLAs and GLCs has to do with this. Sure, you can dislike it diluting the brand and making more people in lower income brackets also own MBs, but the fact is the S Class wouldn't be this good if the GLA didn't foot the bill. And it isn't because of the GLA that MB is only building S500s with base leather right now. Come on.

I can’t imagine this will be delayed for very long. MB certainly knows the demographics for the S Class. The exclusive leather is sort’ve a must have. Now I don't feel too bad my order was only missing the active ambient lighting.

On the interior options restrictions, could it be because of MB sourcing a lot of this from Ukraine and they are soft of busy with other things at the moment?

Mercedes is not alone, many other Luxury Automakers are scaling back or completely pausing production due to parts sourced from Ukraine.
