W222 vs. W223 dash and vents...Elegant vs. Tesla. IMHO.

The W222 still looks great, that being said, I love the exterior of the W223 as well, and when spec'd with the AMG-Line exterior it looks best. I can't wait till they finally hit dealers.

I disliked the w223 at first but it has grown on my a lot. The 7 and LS interior are starting to look extremely dated compared to the w223

The W222 wins in my opinion.

It's quite interesting how I haven't seen anyone who has said the W223 is better than the W222... Most either say the W222 is better or they're equal... I feel like the new W223 looks like a separate model; It doesn't look different/new enough to replace the outgoing S-Class but rather a different line of Mercedes (Similar to the CLS). I'm quite glad this is the case as the current gen W222 will age better than previous models (W140/W220). I'm curious as to what other people think; Do you agree or disagree with what I said? Why?

I agree, but likely because W222 is still the newest model we see on the road. Like all cars of previous models we loved, there will come a point in the next 2 to 4 years when the W222 will begin to feel dated.

For that inevitable reason, I’ll likely switch to the W223 after it’s been out a few years and/or when/if they modify the current dash using the hyperscreen.

I agree to an extent; Previous MB models have had larger changes (exterior wise) compared to the W222 -> W223. Similar to the 2018 to 2019 G Wagon, I don't think the W223 will date the W222 like the W222 dated the W221. Both share LED lights & simple styling. Interior dating is a different story, though.

Oh I like her, had not noticed the big difference in grill angle till she said it. The w223 is too much too quick for us to contemplate imho, so I'll take the w222 for now.

I am starting to feel the W223 is too hot and too cold at the same time. MB must be feeling it's 'Just right".

I like everything about the new S-Class except the dashboard.
It's like seeing a gorgeous Centerfold quality girl with a big hairy mole in the corner of her lips......

Those chrome vents, imho, on the dash are going to be a distraction\glare off the window…
i guess i like some items, but no regrets on purchasing latest 560..just not feeling the interior. I am surprised that it would be a want item…. since i work in tech all day, the last thing i want to be reminded of is another tablet..

No more MB:(
Although not a fan of the exterior styling, it wouldn't deter me from picking one of these up. However the interior is just too much, I just can't get over it, and to think they are putting this tablet design in the new SL roadster. Amazing.

I would even prefer a face-lifted W221 over the W223. The dash /tablets on the W223 is why I won't ever be interested. I like tangible buttons with specific functions. Too much time scrolling and looking down for my taste. I know all cars are heading that way so I'm going to cling to my 2019 W222 as long as I can.

I think the W222 will age well, but not better than the W140. More the tech, harder to age well. It's the reality with technology. The W140 is now 30 years old and will still look good 20 years from now. That's a half century of aging.

I get the tech comment (hopefully the W222 won't have leaking evaporators which require the entire dash to be disassembled like the W140's). From a looks standpoint the W222 is a much more elegant looking car than the W140 which I find to be pretty boring. I would say even the much maligned W220 was a better looking car.

There is certainly a bias based on how people behold looks. I am on my second W140 (the first one, a 400SEL had 235K miles and the current one, a 1999 S500, has just under 10K miles). I also have a 2014 S550 with nearly all of the options at the time (except a couple) and that’s great too. If I were forced to have only one car, I would keep the S500. When I am out, parking attendants and valets still complement the S500. The S550 does get complements on the interior because it’s truly sumptuous.

I think both cars look great but one thing that wasn’t apparent to me until I saw both side-by-side is how much the front grill sticks out on the W223. I think if they simply made it flush like the W222, it would look a lot better.

I think designers are trying out more aggressive grills to give cars a more commanding look? Both MB and BMW have moved in that direction, particularly the latter. The kidney grills went from being inconspicuous to that’s all you see in the front 😀 Perhaps they are influenced by RR dominating grills? Or just the need to make otherwise curvy cars look rugged? I personally like the aggressive grills of recent cars.

Funny you mention the W140. I HATED that car when it came out. Felt bloated after the W126. Now, the W140 has much more in common with the newer S Classes than the W126. I think the W222 will age very well from a design standpoint. It's probably the most elegant design since the W126. Not a coincidence that the both carry the 560 badge!

I drive both on any given day. We are truly blessed to be able to. These are personal opinions on those:

The W223 handles better, feels lighter on its feet. The large touch screen on the W223 is easier to navigate then all the roller knobs and various buttons located throughout the dash and console on the W222. The seats are more comfortable in the W223.

However, the interior looks more elegant in the W222. The W222 is more quiet and feels like your riding on a smooth sheet of glass. The W222's exterior looks more elegant and is more frequently recognized by others as a high end Mercedes. If the parking is sketchy, we take the less costly W222

Thank you Sleeper Benz. So nice to have an informed opinion as opposed to constant negativity and criticism and the “negative nellies” who choose to dominate this forum for there own ultimate benefit.

It’s nice to hear all opinions positive and negative. But it’s truly refreshing to hear an informed and balanced approach.

You are in a truly unique position to have both models at your disposal and compare them side by side.

Thank you!!
