Wi Fi Data Plan

Has anyone been able to set up a data plan for their car since AT&T is no longer providing for Mercedes Benz?

I have tried and the new service provider is T Mobile and I’ve had no luck. Does anyone know how to watch YouTube or any internet based video platforms.

Left message at local t-mobile store. They had no idea of Mercedes data plan. Said they’d call me back. So far no response.

It has nothing to do with the US T-Mobile. It's the German branch that is handling it, even in the USA. You will find their number @ https://daimlerna.hotspotdrive.com (1-833-779-1024).
Call them early morning because the call center is in Germany and it's hard to get them after 9am EST.

I did first register and then called Germany. After 45 mins , rep gave up and concluded my vehicle was delivered w/o proper equipment.
Will see if dealership can assist.

I've had similar issues, I'm still waiting for Mercedes Me Connect team to provide assistance migrating from AT&T (why AT&T was setup on a brand new S580 is beyond me).
I've been dealing with TMO and MBUSA for 3 weeks on this. They told me my account was migrated but somehow my car still says "No data package" and any online service would trigger the "internet connection unavailable" error...

Same issue here. Mercedes Me advisor checked the details of my car and could see everything except my WiFi SIM card. I have all the software necessary for WiFi but I believe that Mercedes built a lot of these S580’s and didn’t install the SIM cards. Have an appt with the dealership, hopefully they can assist.

Has anyone received any further information about the WiFi? I feel like the rear seat entertainment package has been a complete waste of money without it.

This info was given to us back in July. No update on it yet. As of now, we have told customers to set an account up with T-Mobile. Where they provide them with a plug in device that goes into the OBD port. Not sure if you can just switch right over once the system goes live for the MBUX system though.

In-Car Wi-Fi In follow up from our last communication on Wi-Fi and Network Provider Changes, network provider updates (SIM Card) from AT&T to Deutsche Telekom/T-Mobile have started and will continue over-the-air for the next few months. Due to some limitations, MY 21 S-Class (223) will not transition to Telekom and will not be able to purchase a data plan to use Wi-Fi Hotspot until a later date. Alternatively, the vehicle features the new NTG7 MBUX, which is capable of tethering to a mobile phone via the mobile phone cellular to use online music services.

As of now it looks like our head unit equipment (Hermès) was installed with missing components. According to the powers that be, dealerships should’ve notified us at the time of delivery and asked that we sign a waiver about the missing parts. I didn’t receive/sign any waiver. Why? Most dealers didn’t know they were missing components. Even better news….the missing parts are on back order with an eta of months due to chip shortages. Where’s the bulletin for the WiFi? Having an S580 with all this technology, but no WiFi is like having a S580 with NO WiFi!!! I don’t want to see anymore in-depth videos about rear steering, augmented reality, or massage seats. Get my WiFi working. I still love this car but Mercedes basically dialed it in on this. …….Mercedes Benz, the best with nothing in it!

Did they claim missing components within the Hermes control unit or the complete Hermes control unit missing? Do you still have most of the MercedesMe services? If you have any, I doubt any components are missing from the Hermes unit and definitely not the complete control unit. More likely issues with the soft-SIM configuration. Sounds like "an easy answer from the dealer", nowadays one can blame chip shortage for almost anything.

Just missing components. The Hermès is installed. I have all MercedesMe services which is due to us having the latest/most advanced system in the S580.

And you believe this? Do you mean components inside the Hermes control unit? Which missing component affects WiFi in the car? MercedesMe anyway needs internet data connectivity. WiFi just means unblocking hhtp and perhaps some other ports but using the exact same HW.

Could you ask the dealer to show which components are missing and who at the workshop is able to solder those missing components to the control unit circuit board? I bet they cannot even open the box.

i know the eSIM is in there because before getting migrated I activated the 1gb/1 month trial from AT&T and it worked. Somehow, you can’t get a new subscription but the trial can be activated. Anyway, I have given up because honestly, I don’t think the Mercedes Me connect team in the USA know what they are doing, it’s a huge waste of time dealing with them.
This car was advertised as capable of getting regular updates and yet I have not see one update since it got released…

I don't know what the issue with data plans is but it may not be an issue with the car. Sounds more like an issue between the current service provider and Mercedes servers.

This Mercedes Me is poorly built and supported elsewhere too, not just an MBUSA problem (doesn't make it any more acceptable though).

Our E-class cars have received some on-line updates, both the 2017 and the 2021 cars. No experience about the 223 (yet).

Concierge response

My local dealership concierge advised me that Wi-Fi data plans are not available and that a change of providers is forthcoming. What’s your experience?

S580 Internet

I am dealing with the same issues. Brand new S580 delivered in the summer and provisioned to connect to AT&T, which does not work. Been waiting on an update to transition to T-mobile, but it's been 5+ months with zero progress. How could Mercedes screw this up so much?

As a temporary solution, I got a Verizon hotspot device to use in the car instead. However, for some reason, while my phone sees the hotspot, the car does not. I have done just about everything I can think of and it still doesn't see it. Any ideas?

If you have tried everything, then surely nobody can help you to fix the issue. If you would explain step-by-step what you have tried and how each attempt fails, perhaps someone figures out a way forward.

I guess you followed the manual to connect the car to an external hotspot? The US manual is a bit vague, states that most features may be country dependent. Odd because this manual is not intended to cover all markets. Are they talking about Canada being different to the US?

How to setup Wi-FI

Active wi-fi on the car in the menu

Open the hotspot (You can use either QR, password, or other methods)

Once connected using your choice of options (i.e. password, QR code, etc.)

go back to your phone and click settings, wi-fi and the MBUX #### and a screen should popup giving you the option to register for the T-Mobile service

If you back out, you'll have to power off vehicle and phone and start again

website info - connect (https://www.daimlerna.hotspotdrive.com/)

NOTE: YOU MUST "FIRST" CONNECT TO THE WEBSITE THROUGH YOUR CAR WI-FI -
ONCE YOU REGISTER AND VERIFY YOUR EMAIL, THEN YOU CAN CONNECT TO THE ABOVE WEBSITE FROM YOUR REGULAR WI-FI OR LTE TO CONTINUE SETUP

Once you register"AND PAY" - all connected devices will work normally without you having to log in again. You can also add more than one vehicle to the plan.

You'll register > verify your email > then be able to select a mobile hotspot plan > make payment > and then your services will start immediately after processing

Payments are automatically renewed, unless you cancel 6 or more days prior.

If it doesn't work - turn off popup blocker on your phone or bring in a laptop to connect to hotspot and do it. I had to use a laptop.
Good Luck - let us know if you get it.

Angry Run around

Spoke with a man from HotSpot Drive yesterday. He told me there was nothing he could do. I can’t get the pop up window at all after trying everything (enabled pop ups on my phone, iPad and even a laptop) He told me only Mercedes Connect could help me. Mercedes Connect told me I have a plan with AT&T. No I don’t. I cancelled my plan on my last S class knowing they weren’t using them any longer. I’ve never been able to get a WiFi plan for this new car. She told me they were sending my problem to a supervisor and would email me instructions. Still waiting…

I was able to activate the wifi data plan successfully on my 2022 S500. Car is able to access the Internet just fine using its own browser, and also to stream content.

However, somehow my iphone is unable to access the internet using the car as a hotspot. I spoke with Telekom on the issue and they advised me to contact Mercedes support. Mercedes support advised me to contact Telekom, so I am stuck in a loop here. Does anyone have any idea how to get Internet access on my iPhone using the car's hotspot? I thought it'd be as simple as just connecting to its wifi.

Thanks,
Nick

Turning Low Data Mode on/off (seems on by default when joining this SSID) has no effect.

I am also not able to access hotspot. No one knows anything. I am dropping off my car at Benz tomorrow. Wish me luck.

What happens if you turn off WiFi on the phone and then turn it back on? Sometimes that fixes it for my home network.
