Ordering Question (US based)
Hey all,
I want to order an S580, but on the website and on the ordering guide PDFs uploaded here, it seems a little limited. For example, I want the features that are only “included” in the Executive Line, but I want the AMG-body styling only offered on the Executive Line. I’m unable to mix and match options when building. Does anyone know if a dealer would allow me to build an AMG Line S580 with Executive Line features or vice versa?
Thanks!

Isn’t that some BS? I want to buy a vehicle with what I want for my money, why should I be limited in what goes in it? I want entertainment, I want 4 seats, I want 4 zone A/C! What happened to the best or nothing? Looks like nothing is what they’ll be getting from me! I don’t see long line of people buying these. As a matter of fact I have a few friends who had pre-ordered and refused to take delivery of a car with missing options.

i totally agree! It also doesn’t make any sense, it’s not as if it’s impossible to combine features since they’re available otherwise to begin with. Like, what’s the actual purpose of limiting it? And considering all of the possible customizations you could make via the designo manufaktur program, I find it hard to believe that it would be impossible for a car to have both an AMG line exterior with Executive Line rear seats, etc.

I have been purchasing new S Class cars for almost 30 years. MBUSA has really made some horrible decisions on the w223 in how they have allowed individuals to order their cars in the US. Glad I have my fully loaded Euro Delivered '19 S63 including all the rear seat options with tray tables. I am not even sure the US will offer any potential new S63e/S73e in the US if and when Daimler announces that car.

They're streamlining the production. They just want you to pick A B or C and then your color.
What will happen is that 20,000 people will drive the exact same spec. If I were in the immediate market to order an S Class, I'd want the executive line with all the "innovative indulgences" with the AMG sports line. I'd also remove the rear TV screens.
But alas, not.
They're doing it for cost cutting and easing of production - but as everyone correctly said, at the price point, the idea is to have a more unique product.
That concept is now out the window.

What happened to the fancy optional road-sensing suspension? My car had Magic Body Control. It may be called something different now. Will it be offered for 2022?
When do the 2022 models arrive?

This production streamlining argument on restricted selection of options does not hold completely. If you compare the US selection with that available in Germany, you would find a lot more freedom for the German market.
It is not only the US that has more restrictions than Germany, also many other European countries have stronger packaging than Germany. Germany too used to have less restrictions than they have today. This I might call streamlining of production but it could be simply marketing related too.
In the US restrictions come mostly from MBUSA, less from production streamlining.

Well, that’s what MB wants everyone to think, but having lived with the absolutely crummy, $6,500.00 EABC option for 18 months now, as far as I am concerned, it SUCKS! As for handling, EABC is fine. However, regarding ride quality, EABC is not on the same planet as Magic Body Control. MBC was, I believe, a $4,500.00 option. At $2K more, EABC should have out performed MBC in every way, but it has failed miserably.
To the OP: If you ordered EABC and can still change your order, delete this costly, crummy option.

What’s the main difference between EABC and MBC? How do these work anyways? Is it just an additional controller/sensor to the air suspension or are there additional suspension components? I’m not familiar with MB’s special suspension setups.
