I like the selenite; was my second choice. Can't say I would go there though; in this car the toys are important.

For me there are limits to what I want to pay lol. Honestly, mine is equipped great for me, I don't have any of the backseat stuff, they are just seats...the base Burmester is fine now that I did the sub in the trunk. I wish it had an alcantara headliner...

If that one on the floor didnt have the 21s, and had a different trim than the dark open pore trim it would be a great spec for me.

I was actually surprised how mine turned out with the burl. As you'll recall from wherever we were talking about it Mrs Crab picked it but having it now I'd say she did not make a mistake. Not that I'll ever admit it; gotta play the gave her what she wanted card.

As to the stereo I thought the default stereo was maybe the best I've encountered for a default. The 4D is excellent though; enough to somewhat help you forget the pain of checking that box.

Probably should have said that I like the gold. Never saw it in person though and it's something I'd have to see in the metal before committing.

Wheels would be a dealbreaker for me: Went down that road and then swore I'd never do it again which pretty much guaranteed I would. And did... *facepalm*

This relates to the 7 series because, damn, have you seen that shnozz?

Yeah, I REALLY like the wood in yours with the black interior, and yeah the 21s are a dealbreaker for me.

And yes, that schnoz!

I'll never use it but that screen in the back looks awesome. Also, nice to see the 7 now have an optional proper sounding sound system that can rival the likes of the premium optional systems on the S/LS/A8. That last gen Bowers system was TRASH.

I wouldn’t say it was trash, it was better than the Burmester in the S Class, although not the High End one, but it also didn’t cost $6,700 like the high end one.

To be fair, that base Burmester system in the S class was absolutely trash (even when comparing to 'optional' sound systems in cars that cost half as much), but in my case I was comparing the top option for both cars, and the high end Burmester in the S class is one of the best sound systems one can buy in mass produced cars. The one in the 7, in comparison, was trash.

I wouldn't go that far about the base Burmester in the S Class either. I had Mark Levinson in my LS460L and now have the base Burmester in my S560. Now that I have added a sub its actually quite good. Its clear and has good volume and depth. Its not the ML, but its way better than the basic Harmon Kardon in the G12 7 Series. The issue with the base Burmester in the W222 is really depth and power.

I don't love music enough to pop for the 4D, and the issue is you have to get Warmth and Comfort, power rear seats AND exclusive nappa to get the 4D on the 223, so thats basically a $15,000 increase in price if you just want the 4D. Just not worth it at all to me. I would love an optional audio for $3K that is better than the base Burmester but not as all out as the 4D...and I just described the B&W in the G12 7 Series, or the ML in the Lexus.

For what it cost I thought the B&W was a worthwhile update.

I'd say the exclusive leather is its own reward; significantly upgrades, if you will, the ambience. Unless money is very tight this is probably a box most people should check considering luxury is (part of) the car's core mission.

The 4D on the other hand is a tougher sale; they've managed to outdo Porsche in pricing against a stock stereo here which is probably the best default I've encountered.

Compare that to Porsche where the default is a steaming pile of dung, the upgrade is a Bose which is not as good as the base here, then the Bermy. The latter is very good and usually 5kish over there. They knick you 2k or so for the Bose but it's lifeless other than a one-notey flatulence; and again, not as good as the stock stereo.

Stepping up to the Bermy makes more sense with Porsche considering how craptastic the other options are and the lower entry fee. I had to think about it with this car but ultimately it came down to being older than dirt; money I don't spend today may be money my kids spend tomorrow.

Not specifically mentioned and I'm in no way trying to somehow connect this post to the thread, but... That shnozz, OMG!

I would get the exclusive leather for sure if I was ordering, you almost never see one on a lot with it though. Its a deal at $3K IMO.

SCHNOZZ! lol, on topic!

I finally got to see the new 7 in person and I didn't like the front end at all.

I just saw one on the street. The front end is very imposing. Didn’t really look better than pics imo.

To further our discussion on the 7 series, here are several pictures of my new 7, fully loaded, showing both the interior and exterior, as well as some of the latest tech in the car. I will also give you my thoughts between the new 7 and the numerous S classes I have had over the past almost 40 years. I am sure what I say about this car may not be popular opinion, but it is only my opinion, and others may disagree.

Sharp car. Love the hood cut line. Two tone paint is nice.

The new EV's front end is even worst, saw one on the road last week. Bimmer designers have really lost the plot. Rear end is not bad and I'm getting used to the digital dashboard.

Today I went to my Mercedes Benz dealer to get a charger for my new EQS580 which is on the water and arriving in a couple of weeks. I had lots of the MB sales people, etc. come and look at my new 7 series. The only comment I got about the front end is that it makes the car look more like a Bentley or Rolls Royce.

You might think it is ugly, and that is fine, but that doesn't make it ugly.

Beautiful car!! My question is why did you get the eqs? Why not the I7 instead. The 7 looks way better than the EQS tbh.

I agree. What happened was that my wife and I went into the MB Dealer to get an EQS580 for her and an S580 for me. She has a Taycan now but it is too low to the ground for a daily driver for old people. We ordered the EQS580 but I was just not feeling the S580 so I just went on the internet and looked at the 7 and ordered it 30 minutes later over the phone.

If were were only picking one car and it was electric, I would surely order the i7 over the EQS, but then what to do about the large sedan ICE. That is why it turned out as it did.

I just don't think I'm going to warm up to the styling of the car. Its just over the top garish, IMO...I'd love to love it because its much more reasonably priced than the W223...

Looking at all the photos, I like much of what I see, until I get to the front end. As I prefer the “non-AMG” MB models, I much prefer the “non M Sport” look, as they are currently offering on the I7. I cannot imagine that they won’t make that styling option available on the ICE models at some point. With all that mass of glossy black at the grille, it’s just too “Darth Vader” for me. They have really softened up the 7 Series over the years, so why not give it a softer, more elegant look as well?

The drop down rear screen is a “wow” feature, but since we rarely have anyone in the rear seats, I would not want it.

Really looking forward to Lovin’s critique of the way the car drives & operates.

Jeffery Dahmer's mother famously still loved him despite his deeds: Just because someone likes something doesn't mean it's good. No insult intended to Dahmer's mother.

FYI, you can get the ICE without all the blacked out stuff on the car. I chose not to. To be honest, I was afraid of exactly what you are speaking about, and I do understand what you are saying. I am with you as over the years, I always went for the 600's instead of the AMG's because I wanted the elegance. I guess this year was time for a change.

Working on my thoughts about the driving and operation of the car.
