Yeah, I've had similar (by whatever name) a few times, definitely like it. My last Panamera was that color, it was called something or other burgundy, very similar. Works great with chrome and equally well blacked out. I'm not sure I'm going to buy another one of these yet. I do love the luxury aspect and comfort but I'm a little disappointed in other parts of the car.

Not sure what color I would order if I did do another. I'm already remembering why I don't often buy black cars (maddening to keep clean) even though I love the color. I really like the graphite, haven't had a color like that in a while, and to my eye it works very well with this car. It's probably the choice I would make if I had to make it today.

I would have thought that too, but I had an ES300 years ago that was Black Garnet Pearl, which was really similar and I LOVED it. That car is still in my family but I had it from new for 7 years and never got tired of the color.

My issue with dark colors is the upkeep.

I was going to order that color, but my salesman convinced me not to. His reasoning was, since I trade my cars in every 3 years, I have to buy a more traditional color. If I want to keep that car for 5 years + then I should buy that color because the resale value/ trade in price will be less for that color since not everybody is going to want it.
So I went with Emerald Green metallic. which btw is spectacular when the light hits it right, otherwise it looks Black.

You mean the rubelite? You will have the same issue with resale with the green vs that. Anything other than white, silver, black and grey you will pay a resale penalty

That said I need to seriously reserve judgement until seeing one in person, this has to be a much better colour, right, right... than a Toyota?

I really need to see one in person before I should comment but otherwise I guess the low maintenance is the reason why Toyota has this similar colour.

BMW's has always built the best six cylinder engines, had the best road feel, steering and manual transmissions.

I can't recall (maybe before my time) that a BMW would ever be considered a poor mans Mercedes. BMW drivers wanted to be anything but a Mercedes driver; it was a step down in driving pleasure for them.

I used to curse BMW after our last 7 series experience (F02 750il). The M8 redeemed it all. While there are pros/cons with every brand, they did a lot of things right with that one and they are now on par with MB but are taking very different approaches to design/handling and luxury. I do look at them as equal level cars when it comes to the S-Class/7 series...
I guess Mercedes-AMG with their Driving Performance can easily compete and even beat BMW now. Otherwise I guess they were not the Ultimate Driving Machine for nothing.

No, I was referring to Kalahari Gold. Also the deposit to order that color was 5X the standard $1000 that I paid for the Green, and absolutely no chance of a refund or credit if I did not like the Kalahari Gold..

I was talking about my time growing up in Germany. No AMG; that was just a few guys in a garage building the red pig

As for our M8 comp, it’s quicker than any AMG to date. On the street, most BMW’s will be quicker. On the track AMG rules with the GT series cars and BMW has nothing and even Porsche struggles to match the Black Series.

Oh yes good times. I forgot why they call it the red pig though? Do you mind giving me a history lesson?

I see, did not know that but I am not surprised since BMW likes to underrate their power figures by quite a bit.

Not a fan of gold but I appreciated the S580 I saw. Just elegant. We used to have a champagne gold W126 and I wasn’t a big fan but that car stayed as clean as iridium silver , if not better.

I do love some of the colors that MB made for the S-class; mocha black and magnetite black.
Personally I am bored with obsidian black; not sure how that became the defacto metallic black.

I think it would look better with a more showy metallic; the obsidian is about as vanilla as a metallic gets.

Does this colour change a lot in different lighting for example Diamond Silver ( was it?) that turns baby-blue in overcast weather?

I do agree that silver in general is a very classy Mercedes choice.

As I am legendary on this site for saying, I just wish the horrid, black, glass roof was optional. I know many like it, but to me, it completely changes the look of a light colored car. It’s optional in Germany, but here, they shove it down our throats. I would so love an ALL silver car.

Agree not to mention it lets in a lot of heat when it is simply closed.

While I like my roof I fully agree with making it, and many other things, optional.

That's in addition to changing the idiotic bundling in the US. Job one is allowing AMG on any configuration. Two, bust up the executive. Three, give us some options.

Ordering one of these gave me the same feeling I got as a child when my parents said, "You'll eat it, AND LIKE IT. They were children of the depression so I can understand; with MB it left the same bad vibe but without the excuse.
