In Cali you can get a good deal if you don't have a trade (no concern over sales tax credit they don't give) and you have a similar sales tax at home and they're is reciprocity. In WA I can buy there and just have them register it in Cali. Our sales tax is just as high and I don't have to pay it twice because we have that reciprocity. Back in Seattle I switch to WA plates which is easy and inexpensive.
Lot of things have to line up though; with a 9ish percent sales tax I want that credit. Gotta look at shipping or take the time to go get it. It can work out sometimes but that said, I agree: They're a pain to deal with all around. So much easier everywhere else I have purchased.

I take back everything good I said about MB of South Bay. There a bunch of lying dirtbag scoundrels lol. All this time im waiting for plates/registration and there telling me the DMV is just taking forever. I finally get a hold of the registration company myself and they basically tell me I dunno why there lying to you I've been in touch with them daily over the last month and only yesterday did they finally send over all of your paperwork to process everything. So now I know why 1 month later I cannot drive the car, because they dropped the ball on sending paperwork and payment for reg/plates. If your in Cali you probably wont have this issue and maybe there alright to deal with, but if your buying a car out of state California is just a nightmare. On top of all of this they wont even issue In transit out of state temps.
That was almost a year ago and I just got a renewal quote for my insurance. Without getting into details I got another quote with the same coverage and it was less then half from my current (very highly rated) company to the company that the AARP deals with. With an expensive car and today's high prices, it pays to price shop!

I live in Nevada and bought my car from the dealer in Thousand Oaks CA. I traded in a 2021 GLE450 (bought and registered in Nevada) that was worth about half of price of the S580. They did all of the paper work and had to transport it to me (they paid for that). When I received the car about 4 days later I was allowed to drive it (as long as I had insurance) to the DMV to register and pay the sales tax. The tax rate was about the same in both states, but Nevada lets you reduce the new car price by deducting the trade in. I saved about $5,500 and the DMV needed to scan the VIN barcode anyway so I did need to drive the car there. I was there most of the morning, but everything went smoothly.
