W223 Hood Hinge Mechanical Setting

Was looking at the engine bay and noticed that there are some additional mechanical adjustments to the hood hinges beyond just the normal raised "service" setting location as done with the red button on the gas strut.

I haven't tried it yet but it appears that maybe the rear of the hood can be easily set in a raised position for easier windshield replacement or to allow convective cooling of the engine bay with the hood latched at the front (like what would be done in taxi, livery or police vehicle that sits stationary for long periods with the engine running in hot climates )

Please correct me if I'm wrong and take a look at the simple sprung release latches and U-shaped slotted washer/ lock on both sides of the hood that's held in with a single small bolt that appears to allow the rear of the hood to be held in a raised position when deployed? Not sure what's going on there with the hinge design...

Those hinge adjustments are to allow service departments to open the hood to a wider position to more readily service the engine and engine bay.

Thanks for the reply. There already is a service position built into the struts to raise the hood to vertical.

Why would the lower hinge pins on the hood side be able to be released altogether with the latches? Just not completely seeing it. Does anyone happen to have any documentation on these hinges?

Warning, do not release these latches without a second person on the other side to help support the hood.

It's for production; the robotics need more angles than the standard open or service position. I'll post a link to a video where you can see it in action; for this that are into that sort of video.

Thanks for posting the video. I'm going to have to come back to it and watch it when I have more time. Fascinating.

They don't put up a graphic explaining the mechanism, you can see it is in more than two positions at various points when showing the S class. I said "see it in action." My bad on that, should have been more clear: I'm deducing it's a production tool based on the video.
