Lots of disagreement here but the post you're likely referring to wasn't a statement of opinion; it was blatant trolling and had no other purpose.

This place is a joke.
Too many sensitive snowflake Mercedes "owners" on here with fragile egos. Of course if you're leasing, I consider it a temporary rental. Just my opinion, of course. I rented a 2020 Ford Explorer for a week last month. Should I go to the Explorer forums and tell the world how great, or terrible it is?

Fine line on whether threads get deleted - censorship is what made a lot of good folks leave this place. I know a few mods were very bored with their private lives and went on crusades against people for fun. It sent many (including me) for the hills.
The user agreement should be mastered by the mods - trolling or annoying posts while still on topic don't seem to violate the rules unless they become personally abusive.

I agree with you Chucky. The sentiment of the censorship is modern as it is ancient. Our society does love to censor others. Is it the job of the moderators to moderate or to censor?? Or are those two words synonymous to the MB World overlords?

I don't think he was stating an opinion or making an argument; I think he was a bored teenager with nothing better to do and the post had no purpose other than to troll. That you are unable to discriminate between that and someone making an actual argument that may or may not be popular isn't in any way going to change the fact that there is a difference.

You are entitled to your opinion. Just because I don't argue with you about it does not mean you know what's in my head, or anyone else's. This is a fundamental part of assumptions.

There are plenty of brands I don't like or I think don't have value. I'm not going to waste my time trolling there. I've been involved with Mercedes since 1985. I love the brand. Don't love everything about it but nothing is perfect.

Why is it so difficult to accept others for the opinions/thoughts? Hell, don't accept them if you don't want to.....but don't say they can't post or have a particular view.
This is suddenly becoming contemptuous and that tells a lot about one's character
MercedesMax, how much thought and effort went into your last post? Who is anyone to even make that call?
Oh yeah, pretentious overlords of manners and good taste lol.

Since some folks are so hung up on this gents post, maybe go back and re read what it says?
The Fall of the S-class - MBWorld.org Forums
I'm no professor but phrases like ' my modest opinion' and 'I went to try a S63 W222' or any other opinion that was shared. Instead of just being a bunch of whiners, maybe consider having a dialogue that isn't trolling a member for their opinion?

See, you are just insulting someone and assuming you have a reason for someone else's behavior/outlook, with distain I'd add.

If I had to guess this thread will be closed because threads questioning moderation are not allowed on most forums. On the other hand, had we been having an allowed discussion it would have remained open because you were not overtly trolling.
As to being snide or condensending; I hadn't intended that. I apologize for that and I mean it sincerely. The concept that something doesn't exist it you don't know or understand it is logically fallacious. One easy way to discern whether a post is probably trolling is to use a substitution. Imagine replacing what a poster stated with "Your momma wears combat boots!" If that works (and it would have with the deleted post) you can figure you're probably looking at a suspicious post. That poster does the same multiple times without any other content in other threads and posts some conclusions can be drawn in regards to intent.

Our former President likes to opine that the only reason he lost was due to massive fraud. Hey, its his opinion but there are no facts to back it up.
A valid opinion should be based on facts and evidence. Otherwise your just a fool in whose opinion the world is flat.
There simply is no proof or evidence that the W140 is a better car that the current one.
Hell, I was there when the W140 came out. Most Mercedes people didn't like it at all. Compared to the W126 it was too bloated and disconnected. First time I drove one I thought I was in a (80's)Cadillac.
You may not like the W223. Ok, no problem. You don't have to like it. But there is no need to be a troll about it. Too many trolls in the world as it is.

Let's compare a current thread, this very one we're in now: You made an argument and stated an opinion. I disagree with regard to the thread that was closed. No one died because we disagree. Set that aside for a moment.
If I had to guess this thread will be closed because threads questioning moderation are not allowed on most forums. On the other hand, had we been having an allowed discussion it would have remained open because you were not overtly trolling.

When did we get to the point where opinions become divorced from facts or truth?

MBWorld is not heavily moderated but there are some interventions to keep the threads relevant, on-topic and helpful to our members.

Im glad to see management changed. However, this place has never been the same since the legends like Markopolo and others left. It used to be a fun place to have good banter - some while drinking a good old whisky.
Then at that time - those Mods enjoyed pressing the ban button like a kid poking another kid with a stick. The problem was - while those mods lived their life on here to behave that way - most of the rest of us - had actual lives and only came here for the fun of it.
When the fun stopped - so did we.

This shows maturity and tolerance. Hitting the panic button to report posts, as apparently thin-skinned participants have done is, well, thin-skinned. And intolerant.

FWIW I was referring to the era long ago - the error with MBDueschbag and that ilk.

Personally, I thought the W140 post was interesting, especially since the poster refused to answer whether or not he actually drove one. Someone else made a reference and I was just getting ready to jump in. I didn't really see anything harmful in the post, but that being said it wasn't horribly productive either. That being said, I personally saw no reason to shut it down. it was creating lively discussion.

But I can also say that the overall tone and personal attacks (not in the aforementioned thread) have just sharply increased over the years. This is something that just didn’t happen in the past.
Happy you are back again…

Agree with that on the changing posting habits over time. In the early forum days moderators hardly moderated, but then they didn't need to; people tended to communicate the same way they did in person while online. Over time that's morphed into people thinking they can and should be able to say anything, any time.
I'm not talking about what should or shouldn't be allowed; I'm talking about the knuckle sandwich factor. People will say things on the Internet that they would not even consider uttering in person nowadays; it wasn't always that way. There used to be more discrimination.

This has created a craziness in the world that wasn't here at the beginning of 202
The silliest things escalate into personal attacks quickly on this and pretty much every other forum I'm on. It's sad.

This forum is not heavily moderated at all. Not even a little bit.
There's a difference between people having opinions and trolling. The threads you are talking about were trolling, not voicing of opinions. For one he started multiple threads doing the same thing, and posted off topic in other threads trying to troll them too. There are lots of opinions voiced here that are negative about this car, but they don't get moderated because they aren't trolling.
When someone joins a site just to crap on a car they don't own, they are a troll. If you let trolls take over your forum, it runs legitimate posters off.
