The funny part of that is the implication they all actually know what they're doing and made an educated choice fully knowing the possibilities. Most don't but that's neither here nor there because the same is true with Android and it's Samsung fanboys. For me it's an answer to a question I never asked. I build my own PCs, my phone is rooted and highly modified, etc. I'm not exactly Apple's core customer type.
I’ve always thought that apple was a pretty ideal UI and ecosystem for the average 70-80% of the population, and that it’s awful for the periphery who want more security (questionable with running Android) or more clarity (also questionable with Android) or more control and customizability (definitely better with Android)
Don't get me wrong, it's good for a lot of people. I'm talking about those that spout off on both sides without having any idea what they're talking about with my la,,,,st comment. I think a number of users are simply where they started and have never known anything else.
In any event I don't care what other people use; I'm just not getting a phone that does the exact opposite of what I like to get Atmos. Bring it to Tidal and we'll talk.
Whatever you do, whatever you use........enjoy your life and try not to be a bite in the ***.......life is short and the NSA monitors all of it no matter what you think.

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming,,,
The article isn’t clear whether if one already has the Burmester 4D, thats it’s just a software upgrade for current owners, or will it be hardware?
(of course in addition to the music subscription)
It's strictly a software update; or so they said in one of the intro videos for the EQE SUV. Its expected to be available in connect eventually; nothing was said about cost, if any.
Lossless audio makes a noticeable difference in sound quality when you are listening on a good audio system. With the addition of Atmos now, you're really going to have an incredible audio experience in a W223 with 4D that will far surpass what you get with Spotify. I would imagine that they too are developing a lossless audio program.
Spotify keeps saying HD is coming and it keeps on not coming; last I looked it still wasn't there. Even if they pony up the ching to license the processing they would still need source material which is probably the harder hoop.
Not native multi-channel Atmos music tracks; most streaming multi-channel out there now comes from SACD and DVD-A and is played back in Atmos. That's what Amazon and Tidal are running They both sound great but it's kinda Pro Logic 2.0 compared to what a true native Atmos track would sound like. Remember some of that sound is derived in processing because the elements Atmos can address didn't even exist when these recordings were mastered. Which is what I'm unclear on; are they talking about true native masters or just more of what's already available elsewhere?
Either way for Spotify you've got licensing to sort and while Dolby is just a matter of dropping ching the material takes more time.
Ok Crabman….Bottom line me here…I’m streaming Apple Music thru Apple CarPlay. And yes, I have the iPhone 14 Pro set on “Lossless ALAC up to 24-bit/48 kHz. There’s another setting on the iPhone 14 Pro: Hi-Res Lossless ALAC up to 24-bit/192 kHz. That would be at a very low efficiency of 145 MB. What might you suggest, Crabman? Somehow, I think a lot gets lost using the wireless Bluetooth. Am able to opt into non Bluetooth and use USB instead? Thank you.
Thoughts on this?

With Apple Music they only provide the track in Atmos if it was recorded for Atmos. So, most music isn't Atmos, its really only newer music that is. Can't speak for Tidal, I stopped using Tidal when AM released their lossless service.

You're losing all the lossless quality streaming over BT, have to use a USB connection or wireless CarPlay which uses WiFi not BT.
I've been into home theater for a long time, I'm moderately well read on the subject but don't mistake me for an expert. With that preface if asked over on those forums the responses would follow two veins; pragmatism or climbing the highest mountain.
In the first you have to ask if it matters? Can you hear a difference? The second; it's always better to check the highest box. You know you; if you need the highest box checked, then by all means check it and you're done. Were it me I would go back and forth and see if you can hear any difference in your playback environment. If you can't, and you can survive not checking the highest box, you've found your setting. If you can hear some difference, then you've got a value call.
You need to be plugged in or on carplay. You'll want to have your partner do the switching so you're listening blind. Use the same material played at the same volume.
Has anyone successfully set this up? The article states both the 3D and 4D systems should work, so I assume that includes the base 3D Burmeister in the S class? I didn’t see Apple Music as an option under the online music tab.
I have it going on Tidal with the 4D. There are few true ATMOS tracks and you end up with a sound similar to 5.1 stereo, Dolby, Neo, that sort of thing, most of the time. Not surprising considering the source material but for all that it's the best I've had in a car.
You should have access to Tidal, Apple, Amazon, and Spotify, in the head unit. I needed to go into the main menu and set them up before I could see them in the online tab. In my case them would be Tidal and Amazon. Once you have them setup you should be able to see them in the online section of media.
I can verify what tracks were played and what kind of recording it was in Tidal by looking at my history on the phone or PC. If there is a way to see it in the car I haven't found it. Not sure how you would verify you're getting the goods with Apple.

Is there a way to actually tell/verify that it’s ATMOS?
