Built-In Dash Cam
Can anyone tell me which USB-C port is used for the built-in dash cam? There’s four, two near the cup holders and two in the center storage bin. And will any USB-C thumb drive work without any special formatting? I just ordered a 512 GB 3.1 thumb drive.

I didn't format, worked fine. I'm in one of the 2 forward of the cupholders; definitely works in either of the two. Not sure on the center cubby ports; it takes up no useable space forward, and I have 4 zone, so I didn't want to give up any of the limited space.

The two inside the storage work on mine. I don't really use the storage for much besides a cleaning microfiber so I leave my USB drive in there connected with a dongle. Mine drive is only taking 2 minute videos (but on loop so continues creating new videos). Haven't taken the effort yet to try trouble shoot that but would be a minor inconvenience if I did need to use the footage.

Thanks everyone. I got it all setup using the ports near the cup holder. No formatting necessary. My car has a selectable option to loop record upon startup.
Im thinking about using my existing dash cam to record the rear, but I need to figure out how to disable the auto sun shield.

Sure wish they would use all 4 cameras for DASHCAM recording on the W223 (like Tesla does)
I mean they have a camera in the rear anyway - so why not DASHCAM it while we drive ???
Seems like such a simple and obvious thing to do... MB - are you listening??

If and when you have fitted it to the rear, I would appreciate if you can post your experience. Some pics would be nice too. TIA.

It’s some obscure British cam that works really good. The brand is called Nextbase. https://nextbase.com/dash-cams/
Yeah, I purchased a USB to USB C extension cord and figured out a way to tuck everything and plug it into an ignition-controlled outlet. At least I mocked it up. I haven’t done it yet, though. I’m going to get my windows tinted first.

I wish our S580 did what my Model S Plaid does, the dashcam functionality on the Plaid is unreal. However now that I think about it, even my 2020 M760 which initially didn't have dashcam, and BMW shot out an update later on was comprised of 3 or 4 cameras, I forget which. All of the cameras are independent of each other in these cars and all it would take would be a simple update for MB to shoot out to enable it. It would just be 3 or 4x the footage space for storage, but I don't really think many of us mind. I have a 1Tb usb thumb drive formatted in ExFat like in the Tesla
