And is only 0.1s slower 0-60mph vs the 580. I wonder if the MPG will be affected. Also noticed the curb weight is only about 100 lbs lighter than the 580, I thought there was a bigger delta there on the 6 vs 8 cylinder cars. For some reason the S500 has a slightly more spacious trunk too.

I am thinking if one should wait ... or not.

Right I mischaracterized it, it's a modified V8 to include components for seamless electrical integration, it still took lots of design hours to do that. Also, they are not going to go all electric and no other arrangement would give them as much power, so I think we should be safe for a few years.

Fearless prediction: The V8 does not go away any time soon.
If you're any company that isn't Tesla the run-up to EVs hasn't been pretty. The EU will miss their deadline, the US will also miss the imposed deadlines in various states and municipalities... Except by more.
If I were a betting man I'd be somebody else but I'm not losing sleep over eating my hat on this one. Most manufacturers have walked back their EV talk and these are the people who will decide when we move to EVs. The push the was not for climate; it was too push tin. The tin isn't moving fast enough to maintain those all important profits which only leads one place. Call me jaded but that's the way I see the future when I look in my crystal ball.

You all talk about the V8 as if MB isn't capable of doing something utterly insane and downsizing the ICE in the S63.
Look at what's expected in the E63 -- a 6 cyl.
Look at what happened to the C63. Breaks my heart.
