I couldn't get past the first-year issues of the W223 - missing options, too touch-screen dependent, more owner complaints than usual. After owning a new S-Class every 3 years since 1986, I went to the dark side and did a BMW M850i. I always wanted to try a BMW and was rewarded with a very fun car (full of buttons!), but I miss my S-Class. I hope the S580 "refresh" addresses the multiple issues that permeate this forum so I can get back in "my" Benz.

Well, we will still have two MB’s after the S580 goes away and I’m hoping against hope that the 2025 S Class refresh is something I want, so I don’t want to totally destroy my relationship with them by getting a lawyer involved, at least not yet. I’m confident that the process is now on track and should be completed soon.

I walked them through the emails I sent and they said “Oh, yes, I see that you did approve it.” As it turns out, since they messed up, the process had to start all over again, with another “2 to 4 week” wait time. Anyway, I expect that they will take the car back within the next two weeks and I will post details at that time.

My gut feeling is that MBUSA is swamped with a tsunami of repurchases and that they are falling all over themselves trying to deal with it. As I mentioned previously, some dealer service advisors will tell you, OFF THE RECORD, that they are facing historic levels of issues with 2021 & newer vehicles. I had one SA say that pre 2021 MB’s “across the line” were the last good ones.
I don't think that there are that many W223 for re-purchasing issues, but there is a ton of EQS vehicles for re-purchase. If you look around, and I did it out of curiosity, the amount of EQS cars with lemon title on that market is more than the used or new ones! I could not believe how many lemon EQS cars, and some of those with a 140K MSRP and 5K miles, are listed for 80K!!! crazy. Despite the good range, the EQS seems to be a big big big issue for Mbenz nowadays. I don't think W223 is the main reason, though there are a a few lemon W223 cars but not as near as EQS.

Not surprised, new electric technology is bound to have its issues. On top of that, very hard to find service techs who know how to work on these cars, especially quickly at that. Electric seems to be problematic regardless of brand, BMW and Porsche EV’s have a large share of issues as well.

It would be interesting to put on number on that: Buybacks on luxury EVs. Just looking at the forums I get the impression there are fewer complaints in Taycan land but forums can be misleading.

Taycans have also been out for a while so problems have definitely settled, but for a while software problems and 12v were a big issue. My local dealer has them in for service much more frequent than a Macan or Cayenne when it comes to tech/software issues.

Just curious, HOW were you able to search for “Lemon Title” vehicles?

Cargurus has a specific search field for this - “vehicle history”

The BMW I7 has excellent ride quality, but I’m not ready to go electric just yet and I’m not enamored with what I feel are tacky looking interior doo-dads. I have driven the ICE version as well and was not as nearly as impressed with it, compared to the electric. I’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that I am going with a 2019 or 2020 S560 for now. There’s been way too much drama with my daily driver over the past couple of years and I’m hoping a nice W222 will cure that.

In addition, as I get older, I find myself really turned off by the prices of these ultra luxury vehicles and other luxury goods. I’m just not going to drop $300K on a new car and then not be able to drive it anywhere.

I don’t mean to turn this thread in another direction, but in California right now, as well as several other ares of the country, they have thrown all the cages open and allowed the criminals to roam free. I don’t need a car that announces to the world “rich guy here!” A nice, silver, W222 flies under the radar for the most part and that’s just fine with me.

Yeah I wouldn't want to drive a Bentley around all the time either, and the cost is insane I agree.

I have not driven a Flying Spur but I have read several reviews that say the same thing, that the S Class rides better.

Driving my S560 this morning, it really is an incredible riding and driving car, its the first car I have had where I truly don't see anything I really want more, that i7 was the first thing I have driven that I walked away saying wow.

I agree. There is a “WOW” factor to the I7. Unfortunately, in my opinion, after driving my S580 for about 18 months, the only wow factor is the quietness of the cabin and the I7 feels to be reasonably better in that regard. To me, other than the quietness, MB has lost the “WOW” factor for me. For the first time since I can remember, there is not one new MB that I feel an attraction to, not one.

Thats how I got with Lexus. I still like MB's offerings, I like the GLE and GLS, I like the W223 fine I just don't feel a desire to replace my 222 with one, and the issues here give me pause.

My big concern is I really love my S560 and I don't want to replace it with something that will make me miss it, but I also am not somebody who keeps cars for a long time either...so I'm kind of in a conundrum...

Buy out your S560 and wait for the i7 LCI to see what improvements they make. Hopefully by then the market and interest rates will also be better. If the LCI sucks, I have a feeling you will still be able to find pre-LCI cars as 7er’s are sitting on lots.

I also have the refresh W223 to consider. I have time before I have to make a decision

It's funny one of the richest guys in this city is still rolling around in his W220. I ran into him when he was visiting one of his mistresses in her 7 figure home in our neighborhood and he told me that it is still running well at close to 500K miles. I guess he is trying to fly under the radar as well.
