We bought a new 2023 Nautical Blue S580 one year ago this month. It was just two weeks off the boat. A bit over 5000 miles on the odometer as of today. So far not one issue with the car.
We absolutely love the car! The smooth quiet ride, the acceleration, and all the bells and whistles make me look forward to driving it every time we take it out. The Burmester 3D sound system is like sitting in a sound room at a high end stereo store. Metallica’s Sandman at max volume has surely caused me additional hearing loss!!
We just did an 800 mile road trip and I had the hands-free driving system activated probably 700 of those miles. Taking curves, coming up behind traffic, and lane change all worked flawlessly. BTW, I get a warning that I have to touch the wheel every 45 seconds.
We have mainly owned Cadillac’s in the past but we did once own a 2003 S500 that eventually was spending more time in the repair shop than being driven. So yeah, Mercedes may have some dependability issues.
We’re new to this forum and for the most part all I read is complaints and service issues. We may at some point have problems with our 580 too but I wonder if there are other S class owners out there who have had nothing but positive experiences with their car?
I love my S580! Thoroughly look forward to driving it every time. It is an occasion to drive this car and it’s a blast. Comfortable, luxurious, understated and very powerful.

Forgot to say…mine is a 2022 and I’ve had the car for 20 months. No material issues, minor glitches which have been fixed by software upgrades.

i am in Canada and have the s500 SWB...i have had no real issues with the car that have not been satisfactorily addressed by my dealer. I have had the car since may of 2022 and it is a 2022 model. The 2 issues which i have had were as follows
i did discover that my pirelli 20 inch tires were not run flats and they were supposed to be. The dealer after 10000 kms replaced them with what i should have had.
The second issue was a rattle from the front passenger headrest and a new one is on its way from Germany but not here yet...
other than these 2 issues the car has been perfect. Very powerful and smooth in my opinion and i really like its looks

I think this is more a comment about your position in life, which changes one's perspective. If you didn't have any other cars to drive and just spent your entire life's savings on a $100K Mercedes, that little rattle in the passenger headrest would be much more annoying.
Mine is a 2021 S580 with 28,500 miles which I have had for over 2 years. I love it and look foward to driving it everyday. I still turn around to look at it after I park, while I am walking away. I had some software glitches in the begining but they were fixed with updates.
Good to hear positive experiences, especially 28000 miles and no issues.
We had to work our way up to buying a $143,000.00 car. We wanted to get a 2021 Cadillac CT6 Blackwing (they were selling for about 90k) but couldn’t find one we wanted.
Our 2019 CT6 Sport was ok but the Cadillac ride and interior appointments are just not what they used to be. We found a used 2022 S580 with 1200 miles we liked for 115k, made a deal over the phone, and then the guy tried to up the price when I got there. So that didn’t happen and I’m glad now it didn’t.
I have a longtime friend who I let drive our 580 one day in a rural area. He’s a motor-head who likes to go fast and has ridden his Suzuki superbike up to 180 mph. Absolutely insane thing to do.
In the passenger seat I couldn’t tell how fast he had the 580 up to until he said “That’s it. 135.” That was top speed. When our 03 Tbird was new and broke-in I took it to 140 (also insane) and the computer still had not shut it down. It is my understanding that the high end or top speed is determined by the tire rating. There’d be a lot of little pieces to pickup if a tire blows at 135…
I'll chime in - I've had my 2022 S580 for about six months now. At less than a month or two old, I hit a pothole on I285 and blew one of my 21" tires. Had it fixed the next day. I've had a few gremlins in the electronics that have been fixed by software updates, so other than those issues, I too am very happy with my car. Last car was a 2018 E63S, so it was a bit of a drop, performance wise, from my AMG to the S, and to be honest, I miss my E63 sometimes because there aren't as many of them on the road, but the ride in my S is a whole nother level.
My first Mercedes was a 2016 CLS 400, then the E63 and now an S580. Not certain what my next one will be in a few years, but I may take the jump to either an SUV or finally move to electric.
I’m with you on the base 3D Burmester. It sounds amazing to me. I can only imagine with the 4D system sounds like. That 4D is definitely an option I’ll check off should I lease another.
I’m really enjoying my car as well and equally look forward to driving it. It’s comfortable, quiet and long drives blink by.
I think more men have walked on the moon than got 580s delivered with kick to open... My congratulations!
It was deleted on my 20222 - I didn't realize how much I would miss that feature - but when I'm coming out of Costco loaded down with stuff, this $100 option is a godsend. I miss it!
I totally agree with SFive80!
Mine is a fully optioned AMG S580 have had it since 8/2021 with 14,400 miles on it now.
I did have quite a bit of hassles the first year. Even to the point where MB offered to buy it back. It’s my 5th S class and I believe it is the best of all I’ve experienced (if i ignore the initial problems). The initial problem was the 48volt system and then battery critical warnings. Through this forum I’ve received tips on dealing with that issue and now I haven’t had any issues this past few months.
I look forward to driving it daily, even though I don’t drive too far to my office. The 4D sound system is superb along with the car’s silence and smoothness.
I use the drive assist about 60-70% of the time. My only wish with the drive assist is…. it’s a shame that the Tesla has a better system, MB should be the best and it isn’t.
I had it color sanded upon purchase and I do all the cleaning (waterless) and polishing myself. The Rubellite looks fantastic with the Ceramic polish.

Totally love and enjoy my ''21 W223. Fully loaded AMG/Exec spec (not available in US) with everything but the kitchen sink and rear cooler
A true please to drive. Sure there a few pet peeves/first world problems and minor issues but all promptly resolved (going pains).
Love the car got it fully loaded with the luxury package unfortunately couldn’t get the AMG bumpers but whatever.
2023 s 580 4matic. Nonissues so far!!
got it in august.
my first s class in non black.
from 1998 Till 2014. (Blk Blk)
Alway buy to own and trade it in after like 7 years. ( buying a new car and searching is the worst )No issues maybe cause of own owner?
Getting used to the information navigation of the new car it’s challenging, but well worth it after a few weeks.
And sometimes I hate reading the forms because I’m always thinking this is gonna go bad cause of others experiences . Specially, the doorhandles it perfect so far I guess if you read about it so much you think about it.thank Buddha I waited until 2 years of production to fix all the bugs in these crazy computer systems.
Best wishes and enjoy your achievements on a beautiful car. 112
