Scary Posts

I am not new to Mercedes. I just purchased a new S580 and hope it appears is as enjoyable as my previous Mercedes. I traded a Rolls Royce in on the car and realized in the five year difference the complexity has gotten significant.

I signed onto the web site so I could read the forum, and I hope I did not screw up by rearing this forum prior to buying the new M-B. Most of the threads are complaints about the car, its lack of reliability, and how bad it is. Tell me I did not screw up.

Don't worry, forum discussions generally are about problems. The majority of problems discussed here have been fixed by SW updates at this point. Obviously the car still has some hiccups as any modern car does.

And welcome to the forum.

Most of forums emphasis problems instead of positive experiences. Having said that, there are some cars that have more of a “happy-experiences” nature for most posts than others. Obviously, the W223 (as a new generation) had more issues reported here than the average car, but it’s still a great car to own. I heard, and I believe, that most of the glitches have been addressed “even mostly through software updates” by now (assuming u got a 2023 or 2024 model year). The other issues are mainly on the design and functionality side, and if you’ve already bought the car and happy with how it looks, the interior design/screens/door handles, etc, then you’ve got nothing to worry about.

After-all, an S-class is still an S-class no matter what. It’s still the best S-class that you can buy now in my view… you’ll enjoy it a lot if you’ve already liked the design.

Congrats on your new toy! Post some pic : )

I like the design. I like what little I know about the car and driving it. I anticipate I will pick it up sometime in Feb and I am actually looking forward to learning it. I complain about the new cars and how they are designed for people that cannot drive, but the reality is some features are really neat. I don't even own a smart phone but I am not afraid of learning the magic in the displays. I can say for certain it is as quiet as a Rolls and based on a short drive it is just as comfortable to drive.

At the time my car was delivered the built in car connection didn't work with Tidal; that was fixed in a software update a few months after I bought the car. Other than that, it's been smooth sailing all the way. There are many here who have the same experience, and I'm sure some will be along.

Don't worry about figuring it all out; even a pathetic old man like the one typing this post was able to blunder through getting acquainted without drama. You're going to be fine.

I just got mine on the 19th (finally) and I did the same thing - researched it here and had a great deal of trepidation. Guys like crabman (thanks!) calmed my fears...

I will give a more detailed writeup of my 1200 mile trek home from Houston to West Palm, FL tomorrow or when I can get to it...but it was a wonderful ride. And even on the dreaded 21s!! The ride was magnificent and quiet...and smooth!!!!

More to come!

Have a concierge at the dealer give you a full lesson on the car. I absolutely love the tech but it's certainly complex for people not used to this amount of it.

Most of them knows only the basics that the average person would already know; but it can be useful for a new Mbenz owner or someone upgrading from 2-3 generations older. I still recall in 2017 when I asked concierge to tell me how I can turn the AC off in my W222. He had no idea : ) The pre-facelift does NOT have an AC-off button even if you keep pressing the fan speed down. It can be done only via the AC screen settings after navigating through 2-3 windows.

Nice Teaser Shot @regancc !!

Next F1 season will attend Miami GP as VIP Guest of the Mayor of West Palm Beach. Attended college with his First Lady who was a MechE/Math major at Rochester. Hopefully their first dog Zeke doesn't bite!

Don't stress. There clearly are issues with this model, I think a lot of them were with 21 and 22 models, and a lot of it is that the design of the car is really different and longtime owners of S Classes complain about a lot of design decisions that aren't reliability issues.
