Exclamation S 580e Cancelled

German media reports the S 580e (2WD version) will no longer be produced beyond June 2024, so if you want one, now is the time!

2014 Mercedes E350 4matic Wagon, 2018 Fiat 124 Spyder Lusso manual, 2005 Acura TSX manual
“However, the 4MATIC all-wheel drive variant of the model as S 580 e 4MATIC, which remains on offer in both vehicle lengths (W/V 223), is still on offer and therefore not affected. The S 450 e of the S-Class without 4MATIC also remains unchanged in the engine portfolio, including in the coming change year 24/1 (MY 805).”

Appears to only be the RWD version. Seems like the take rate is low, people either get the lower powered S450e or get 4Matic. Of course in the US we only get the 4Matic versions so no changes on this side of the pond.

I have a standing bet with ANY EV, and I know a ton of folks with EV from the Model 2, to Plaid and the stupid Truck thing....race from Orlando to Atlanta for $30k. No one will take the bet (I would drive my E63S or the GLS550). Simply, their cars cant make it with out a long stop to charge.

So, move that to the S class and what it is. When we have a long trip we take the S. We do not want the disruption of charging, nor the theory of added and extended downtime of potential repairs. Yes, fuel is expensive...but, anyone who complains about the price of fuel and owns a boat needs to close their pie hole. So, most of us who are in an S do not care about the theory of fuel efficiency, and even less about some delusion about climate change - and, the majority of the EV's I know are are a third or fourth car and simply a toy.

I'd take the bet! I get to fill up my tank at home the night before and you have to go to a gas station in the morning before you can leave town. I'll also be driving an 800V vehicle that can charge in 15 minute which is less time than an old man takes to pee. So get you checkbook ready!

See, I can drive fast and not kill my gas tank as fast as a battery dies. Few years ago we took a Model 2 from Orlando to Atlanta...had to stop twice (yes, we were driving hard).

Shouldn't you post on the EQS forum (or a forum for other EVs)?

This is the W223 forum and there are no W223 EVs. Only ICE (mild hybrids) or plug-in hybrids. All can handle long trips without a charging pause.

Small knitpick but I don't know of a car called the Model 2. I preume you're talking about the Tesla Model 3.

What ever, you cant tell any of them apart. I am a "car guy" and I cant tell them apart. I can tell an E class by generation and engine pretty easily....Tesla, well, may as well be an old K car.

2024 S580
You can tell them apart since there is no such thing as a Model 2 lol. My guess is you also think the S580e is an EV, its not.

And I'm glad you can tell E Classes apart, I have a hard time telling any Mercedes sedan apart from a distance...

The RWD S580e was never offered here in the US, so the US offerings are not affected at all.

And the S580e is a good option for people who want EV driving in town but don't want to have to worry about charging on a trip, thats the whole point.

So, made for narcissistic folks who virtue signal in public....gotcha. I will stick to my TT V8s and my 911TS....as over all they are far less pollutive, even with my driving style...

Hardly anybody would be able to tell the difference between an S580 and an S580e, so pretty unsuccessful virtue signaling lol.

I'll tell you why I want an EV, the incredibly smooth and silent powertrain and the incredible straight line torque from the electric motors. The only disappointing part of driving the S580e is when the ICE I6 kicks on. Has nothing to do with the environment or the price of gas for me.

I have a plug in hybrid Chrysler Pacifica minivan that my wife drives, no joke when I go out on the weekends I drive it instead of the S560 because I love the EV powertrain. The fact that we fill it up every 2 months instead of once a week is just an added bonus.

I understand that and if I wanted that I would just go out and buy a Plaid. I happen to have a real love for the sound of an engine and the mechanical feel. Sure a Plaid is neat but for me it wears off very very fast as opposed to tinkering with cars. Part of the virtue signaling on my part is I have traveled the world and I have seen child labor Lithium mines firsthand.... I would rather have a car with a minimal amount of that.

I never liked this model. I'm talking particularly about S 580e. Don't like the design, and don't get why so many people are obsessed with this car model.

Plaid doesn’t do it for me, I don’t like Tesla’s aesthetic or their control choices.

Your opinion is valid, just present it like that instead of putting other people down for having a different opinion than you.

The S580e is identical in design to all other W223 S Classes.

My favorite remains the s500 2010. I love its class design. The car looked super-luxury. I had it for a while and enjoyed driving it. Especially slowly driving in my neighborhood.

I'm 100% in agreement with that. While having some respect for the product it's not an answer to a question I was asking.

I just didn't like the look of it inside or out. I'm not a sporty car person, obviously lol.

Yep, what I want is the Tesla network for non Tesla cars, which is coming.

considering the fact that they sell with big discounts, I’m not sure so many people are obsessed with it. Especially given that the S580e is identical to all W223 models

Perhaps I see these cars more often on the streets because they are sold at big discounts.

Do you think we are talking about the EQS? You wouldn't know whether or not an S Class was an S580e unless you looked at the badge at the back.

I hardly ever see an S580e on the road.
