The S8 is nice but the interior is too dated.

Hey, to each their own. The I-6 was smoother to me. A few tenths of a seconds difference in acceleration wasn’t enough to move the needle. I would rather have the 4D Burnester and every other option on the 500 than 580 without at the same price.

Well I've heard the A8 is getting another refresh for the '26 MY. The 7 series refresh is on the way as well. I hope they clean up the 7 series front end.

I see, which part is dated specifically? Genuinely curious because it has all the screens that MB and now even BMW is putting in and even audi is started to follow as well.

I think when it comes to screens, we all share a yardstick: Cell phones. We know exactly what smooth and responsive looks/feels like when negotiating a GUI, that sharp image quality has set our expectations. Audi has fallen behind in this regard. The screens look low-res by modern standards, they hitch up in use, are slow.

You also have a lack of iteration with the GUI, it's much the same now as it was when introduced. As a comparison I've been in a BMW for 6 months and there have been 3 updates to idrive, many of those changes were small, but some were significant upgrades. This is a problem comparatively because Audi can't easily update the GUI in their outgoing products in the same way it's German counterparts now can.

I think the last thing is that their interiors had too much time on them in a business built upon regular refreshes. They look old to me as well, you see many people saying it, not just Frenetic. I can say unequivocally; when shopping, I got in the S8 after the 580, and it felt old, yesterdays newspaper. The 580 on the other hand exuded new, modern, and was subjectively attractive, despite the cheap looking crappy black plastic.

That is what I see when I get in most Audi's now, and I believe I am not alone. I had in general, liked Audi's interior design aesthetic over the years, including many years ago when I had a Fox. The clock keeps ticking, and you have to move on in this world, or be left behind. This is where I now see Audi, behind, and needing to up their game.

Agree. The reason I mentioned the A8 to OP is because OP said (if I recalled correctly) intended to keep the vehicle for a long time.

The trend lately is cost cutting (and worse use of materials) and too much tech (and in a bad way), added complexity.

I will straight admit that I am not an audi fan and audi isn't for me but given OP considered the RS6 and then back to a non sporty car, the W223 S 500, hence why I mentioned the S8. I would also hope the reliability of the A8 is good since it has been a while since it was released so all the bugs hopefully is worked out.

Just thinking out loud to be honest.

Yeah, the RS6 was my bucket list car but I would rather have the M5 Touring now that’s it’s released stateside, Audi’s once steller interiors are dated to me and the newer ones look very disjointed and unsettled to my eyes.

Yes, I do intend to keep my next car for a while. Well, six to seven years, or whatever the max warranty period I can get.
