Am curious about the alcantara wrap you mentioned in the last photo. Didn't know this was an option. Please share photos and more info when you get this taken care of and how it can be done. I have similar issues in our X7 that I'd like to fix the same way.
The color combos of your W223 reminds me of my very first W222. I liked the black interiors and it feels more classy, even though I switched recently to other colors in all my cars.
Any upholstery shop can wrap parts like that. I know exactly where on the X7 you have that plastic, same spot.
I had a shop quote me to do the headliner in my 222 and it was only $800, this should be cheap.
Only thing I’m having a little trouble dialing in so far are the seats. They’re quite narrow in the backrest and the base…
You are right, it same spot in the X7 but to make it worse, with the captain 2nd row seats, it would be just in your face and appears to be a much bigger area from that seat (add to that the large plastic part with cup holders on the floor area). The funny part is that the 3rd row gets to enjoy a 360 full coverage of leather or Alcantara all the way around including the foot area. I can share photos but I don't want to take away space and photos from your thread : )
Yeah the finish on this one seems very good. MB paint finishes are very uneven...some are terrible and some are good....
Both grey’sh W222s that I had came with excellent paint quality. I never applied PPF on either of them and would still take them to car wash stations as needed and I could barely see any swirl marks. Also a part of it is that this color in particular doesn’t show swirl marks like other colors do. Probably the only color besides white that covers scratches really well.

Congrats and welcome to the club. Although have to say I am quite surprised, would have thought you would have gone with the i7, or the facelift S-Class when that comes out.

Did my first Mod! I replaced the terrible plastic license plate holder on the trunk with a metal one like I did my S560. It makes mounting a plate frame so much easier and more solid. This is a very worthwhile $30 mod and this metal bracket is what mercedes vehicles used to come with
Also, I set up Apple Music directly from the infotainment instead of through CarPlay....WOW. The sound quality is AMAZING, Atmos support is incredible. I'm so glad I didn't pay $6,500 for the 4D system...if anybody is not listening to music directly through the system and is using CarPlay you are totally missing out.

And no noticeable orange peel, even around the license plate area which is notorious for it even when the rest of a vehicle doesn't have it This is a far cry from the SL's paint that I've personally witnessed. So glad MB is getting their paint process refined.

Much better! The metal frame fits the chrome of the W223 much better and it fits a S-Class itself much better. There shouldn't really be any cost cutting on an S-Class, it is the flagship after all (well, ignoring the Maybach for a second, but even that had a plastic plate frame).

Yeah the finish is very good. I have had recent loaners though with terrible finishes, so its still hit or miss.

Yeah that plastic backing is terrible. You have to use such tony screws and what they screw into is supported by plastic so it breaks. When I replaced the registration stickers on the S560 I had to dremel the screws off to get the plate frame off to get to the stickers, thats when I replaced it.

Were you able to get the VIN sticker off the plastic backing on the metal one without ripping it? That might be the tricky part.
