Back with Mercedes

Enjoyed my 2009 CLS550 for 5+ years and then purchased a 2015 BMW 740 LD (with the N57 diesel engine). It was a great car for awhile. Especially enjoyed going down the highway at 75-80 mph with the engine turning about 1500 rpm and getting 41-43 mph. Then the expenses and problems started. Nine sets of tires with the damn run flats in 108K miles. Also had the dreaded BMW electrical gremlins. Had a recall on the EGR cooler but the dealer didn’t have a replacement for 3+ years. Finally, I had a CEL light on for 7 months and the dealer and BMW headquarters couldn’t fix it after multiple attempts. Even more aggravating was the dealership telling me that “at least the issue is still covered under the warranty.” Finally gave up and dumped it as I could not get the registration renewed here in NJ with a CEL on. Now back in a Mercedes with a nice silver S580.

It was also interesting when I was at the BMW dealership while still trying to get the car fixed and I was walking around the showroom looking at some new 7 series cars. The service manager came up and told me to avoid them at all costs. He made an interesting comment - “the latest technology: mostly all unproven.” WOW. Anyway, good to be back.
