Possible Motor Issue S580

I have a possible engine failure issue. When I do a cold start after sitting for a day or more, it has a very loud rattling noise like the upper end is not getting enough oil when started. The engine also has a tick at idle. The dealer says they can take it in two weeks (that's when they are willing to give me a loaner). I've had many issues with my car. I have driven an S Class for the last 20 years. My W222s versions were so much better.

I am very disappointed with all the electrical issues with the car too. The car has been in the shop for over 6 times and 60 days total since I have own it since May 2022. I wish I could attach videos, but they are too large to upload.

It sounds like you got a lemon. Sorry for your luck. Are you able to lemon the car?

The tick at idle might be the high-pressure fuel pump and is normal. Let us know what the dealer says.

My 2022 ticks at idle, too. It has to do with the vacuum system and is normal - or so I was told. The rattle is another matter. If you live in the US, have you called MBUSA to report?

Loaner is SO SO SO dealer dependent. For me, if I go to Orlando (Mercedes of South Orlando)...walk in, boom - loaner car. If I go to Gainesville Mercedes...well, they will get into a fender bender in my car, try to hide it, claim they found some other issue and need to wait for a part (while the car is in paint)...and never, not ever give a loaner unless you have purchased a +$100k car in the past 18 months.

Ticking noise is not normal. Had similar noise on a 222. Complained to MBUSA and was told this was a normal noise. I responed, that's BS. The term 'normal' noise is an oxymoron especially in a $150K piece of luxury equipment. I persisted and S/A found a solution in a dealer only problication, something called Xentry. Simple fix, reroute lines and poof, ticking gone.

The issue is what is everybody describing as "ticking". A light ticking in any car with a high pressure fuel system is totally normal, but if its a louder ticking you're hearing inside the car etc thats not normal.
