3D Technology Package double counts the 3D instrument cluster
Mercedes’ has a very misleading option setup for the $3,000 3D Technology Package. It lists the 3D Instrument Cluster as part of the package but if you select it, it forces the $1,200 standalone 3D instrument cluster, bringing the grand total to $4,200 for essentially a HUD.

The pricing is NOT wrong then... it is just that they listed the 3D HUD under that package, when it doesn't include that. The total for both together is still correct in that case. Sounds like a configurator note issue.
You would still pay for exactly what you'd get when you select both.
Honestly? I'm happy I don't have the HUD and the 3D gauge cluster. I specifically sought out a car without it.
Yeah its one of those linked options. Like you can't get the exclusive nappa interior without warmth and comfort. I wanted the former and didn't want the latter but no go.
They should price the 3D tech package at $4,200 though and just have it include the gauge cluster I agree.
I don’t have the HUD in my current S Class, either. Frankly, the HUD should be standard imo since it is kind of safety related, or at least a standalone option. Burying it inside a $4,200 option package is kind of lame if you ask me.
You do get the trash can look behind the driver display. I'd also say that I thought the 3D screen was cool, but it didn't actually add any useful functionality, and I soon stop noticing it at all.
The HUD on the other hand is the best in the business, and second best is not close: The turn by turn is extremely helpful when trying to pick out which two closely spaced roads is the correct turn to make; you almost can't go wrong with an arrow sitting right on the turn. It also offers the best balance of intrusion versus helpful, with its turn by turn instructions. The HUD itself is vibrant, clear, and legible, night or day. There is a limit to how much information you can get in a HUD before it starts to become cluttered, and more difficult to parse at a glance, they do very well there as well.
All in, the HUD is exceptional, a brilliant bit of engineering, and it's something you are looking at almost all times on the road, because it truly is, in your face. It's another option that's overpriced, but I did check that box, and would absolutely check it again. It is the HUD the S Class deserves, and one of the few things that fully lived up to what I expected the S Class was, or should be, before I owned one.
When you go to the summary page you see that it doesn't charge the $1,190 extra. I agree its not the best web design, but its easy to see that it's not charged in addition.
