MBUX is buggy sometimes

First I am assuming Mbux is the brains for all the settings, thus my post title. Whatever it is, it's buggy. I set each key, my wife's and mine to hold our settings, including, seat, mirror, climate, music/radio/streaming preference. That worked for a while but the music settings no longer engage. They stay with the last drivers setting. The door handles are programed to pop out when approaching the car. sometimes the pop out, sometimes they don't. Each key engages our personal seat, mirror and other settings. Sometimes the seat setting engages, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes when swiping my hand across the door handle to open it works, other times it pops out and immediately in again. Today for no reason the defrosters started blasting full hot at the highest fan setting.
When my music setting don't engage, I have to go through the motions; choose the AM app, which defaults to some random playlist that I did not create. I'll input my search for certain artists and I get "no results"

I'm annoyed that a car costing this much is so temperamental.

End rant

There are numerous updates done to address most of the bugs over the years, you might want to bring the vehicle in to a dealership, complain software very buggy, tell them your friend had it fixed by updating the modules to the latest version (ask to update only MBUX first and if doesn't work then the modules) because well, that is most likely what will fix the issue. There are hundreds or even thousands of modules which the MBUX system also communicate and manage along side the ECU. Most likely you just need to update MBUX and not the other modules so hopefully take hours not days.

I found it far more effective to simply push on the handles in the center, rather than using a swiping motion. Just moderate pressure for a few seconds, and you'll sense the handle pushing back, then you let it extend itself. Some of the issues you're experiencing can be remedied by getting the fobs out of contact with the car after you park. That gets you a full shut down, which is needed to get back to ground zero with the fob. Do that, and the handles should present every time on approach, and you'll also find many of those odd lapses with the memory, going away.

What model year car is this? How did you program all the above features for each key? This was discussed here some time ago, the manual explains how to assign a particular profile for a particular key but that menu was not available from MBUX. Are you actually referring to profiles instead of keys?

The dealer and I set up both profiles and each key. Each key contains our individual profiles.

I know what it is, it is described in the manual. I just wanted to know how your car got this feature as it is missing from older cars (older MBUX sw perhaps).

I think it was added for the 2025 model year?

Yes it is. The one that bugs me the most is the finicky Online Music. Music through CarPlay works great, but you get dramatically better sound quality with the Online Music. I usually have to go through and work to get it playing and probably once or twice a week have to hold down the power button to reboot it

My two complaints with the car are that and the interior being prone to developing rattles. Luckily I have been able to myself solve the rattles but I have become an expert at disassembling the dash.

Are you hitting the media button then online music? There are a few different ways to get to streaming music and going straight to Media > Online Music seems to work best for me.

It should just start playing again when you restart the car same as it was when you turned the car off.

Well today, as i approached the car the door handles did not pop out, the seat did not reset to my setting, but the audio tuned to the last station. Sometimes it does.

I repeat Mbux is buggy

Yes, I bring it inside the house.

Regardless of these little glitches, I love this car. It's just annoying sometimes

Yes, it USUALLY does start playing again for me after shutting down and restarting later.

What rattles have you fixed in the dash? I have one near the steering column that is more of a creak but it literally will go on a hiatus for months then briefly reappear only to vanish the next day. It drives me bonkers when it decides to happen.

The passenger headrest rattle—which only happens over jarring bumps—is still there for me as well but it really doesn’t bother me.

How far away? The door handles not presenting properly is highly associated with the fobs not getting out of contact with the car; they should be 100% when the fob is out of contact. That also allows a full shut down, and that full shut down gets rid of a number of glitches, some of which you describe. This fob thing may not be your issue, but it's ended up being the problem for many people on this forum, who thought it was far enough away, when it was not. This was supposed to be fixed, but people keep having the problem.

If the vehicle is still within the proximity of the key (well, the other way around, if the key is still within proximity of the vehicle), better to put it in a faraday pouch or something.

Its about 40/60 for me.

Thats probably the instrument cluster.

I removed the console and the center screen and installed felt around everywhere the screen connects to in the dash, and then also all down the top of the console. That fixed the rattle I had from the screen and made the screen much more solid. Now if I grab it and try and move it its solid like it and the dash are one piece. I also felted and oiled all of that plastic at the base of the seats which 97% did away with creaking and all when moving in the seat. I had a creak to the left of the center air vents but to the right of the instrument cluster that I fixed with a shim between the wood and the active ambient light panel.

Right now I have one I may need to take to the dealer. I think its coming from the windshield cowl under the wiper blades. It gets very pronounced after the car is washed, so that tells me its outside. Once it dries it gets much better but doesn't go 100% away. I removed the top center vent panel (that is a ***** to remove, wow) and made sure it wasn't the center speaker or the doors for the defroster and its not, I also took out the center vents to make sure it wasn't them, and its not. That one any movement will cause it. Even just slightly moving ahead when parked. I just don't know how to remove the wiper blades.

The passenger headrest rattle—which only happens over jarring bumps—is still there for me as well but it really doesn’t bother me.
I don't have that, but my power rear seats do that with a big bump. That doesn't bother me either.

I bring my fob in the house perhaps 50' away tops. The wife leaves hers in her purse next to the door, maybe
25' ft away. I'll try moving her purse farther away as see if it clears up

Thanks

Yeah, mine may in fact be the instrument cluster. It’s hard to pinpoint.

How hard was it to remove the console and main tablet screen? I assume that’s what you removed and not the instrument cluster.

Super easy, that’s a big plus. Both are just bolts and one trim piece to pop off. Here is a video.

This is the felt tape I ordered, works great. You will find that the felt tape really tightens everything up well.

No need to remove the big wood trim. That has a big padded noise isolator behind it so you’re not getting any rattling there.

I think I found the rattle from the cowl. The passenger side plastic under hood cover wasn’t clipped in at the top and was making a tapping noise. Quick run around the block says it’s gone, we’ll see when I drive it for a full day.

So I had some random warning lights pop-up telling me some of the driving assist features are deactivated.
With a car with 100 miles on the clock. lol
No obstructed camera/lidar view.
Hope it's just a glitch

Thank you for sharing the vid.
This will come in super handy when I'm ready to change the trims & tweeters.
