Replacement Key Fob

I misplaced my only key fob yesterday to my 2021 S580, other one was accidentally packed away in a pod until our new house is completed, so I wanted to see if anyone has purchased one anywhere other than a Mercedes dealership.

Costco has key-replacement kiosks from time to time. You might call your local warehouse and ask for details.

Programming a new key without the original is more expensive since there’s an entire process with Mercedes HQ to open a case, prove we have that exact car and get a code to teach in the key. The keys themselfs are expensive to get and the process to teach in is pricey too. Unfortunately I don’t think you really have another way out, although Costco advise was funny.

My current understanding is that locksmiths can make keys up to 2014 models. That anything after is dealer only.

They might make you flatbed it there. Might be cheaper to bust into that Pod.

You can buy a replacement key fob from a reputable locksmith who specializes in modern car keys or from online retailers. However, you will still need to have it professionally programmed by a dealer or a qualified locksmith to work with your car, as Mercedes security requires proprietary programming. The dealership is often the most straightforward, though expensive, solution to ensure it's done correctly.
