Door Closing
Door Closing
I may be remembering another vehicle I once owned, but I swear it had driver and passenger doors that stayed open until you pulled them closed. And did not close by themselves from any centrifugal force, which this AMGS63 seems to do. The doors are heavy, but I find myself constantly defending my shins as I exit from the door, coming to a close once parked. As it is, when the door is swung completely open, I need much longer arms than I have to reach the door handle to get it closed. But this is probably just a rant. Maybe it all is. Anyone else?

Centrifugal forces? Are you spinning in circles...haha? There are some cars where you can put the door at any angle and it stays there. Most car doors have a midpoint and fully open where they stay open, and if you are lucky on level ground it may stay open at any angle. Sideways against a hillside is a different story. Gravity will take over.
Just a thought but, I suspect the 'easy open/close' hinges and the 'wide opening' were developed for use with electric doors to be used across all 223 body styles. As I understand, these are available on the Maybach only. And, the bean counters at MB figured, well, we'll just use the same door hinges on the S and the Maybach to save money. Chuckle, it's always about money. Sigh. Perhaps, I'm wrong.

Commonizing parts is 'common' practice in the industry.
That said, I have no complaints on how my doors open or close on the lowly non-Maybach S
