Damn. The fanboy apologist in this thread is beyond any I've ever seen, ever, on any forum!

Definitely doesn't like seeing his baby being called ugly 🤣

Everyone count to 5 minutes before he jumps right back in

The 220, minus the rust, was my most favorite S. I'm in the middle of buying a vintage one with less than 5000 km
Yes, 5k!

I just finished the video. He absolutely nails it. He usually does a good job but this time he tops himself. I agree on just about everything he said.

And I do see the trunk tray. That thing is NOT what is in my W222. The one in the W222 is leakproof and perfect for restaurant take out. What a joke this one is in the W223!

His summary is spot on. Mercedes is in trouble.

This is a very respectful discussion, why do you want it to be something other than that? Go troll somewhere else.

Its exactly the same thing. Look at the one in your 222, it unzips opening itself up, presumably to clean it. Its exactly the same part.

So much buying decision justifying going on in this thread lol

No… absolutely not the same thing. There is no zipper. You can pour water into it and it won’t leak. Guess how I discovered that.

I had a 222 with the same part, its the same part. When its zipped up it will hold water yes. Think about the mechanism, in order for it to roll up as a square it would have to split, thats what the zipper does. How to you roll uo a 3 dimensional cube? Its impossible lol. That one in that car is broken, the zippers are open when its extended which isn't how its supposed to work.

It was funny that he brought up the heavy, self-closing doors. I don't recall that being an issue in previous models, but collecting items off the passenger next to me and exiting the vehicle has brought me to the point where I may need shin guards. May as well mention that when the driver's door is opened all the way, it's somewhat cumbersome to find a place to bring it back in. Or maybe my arms are just too short. LOL

The doors are heavy and they do close too easily I agree. I've mastered jumping into the car before the door closes on its own lol

Feel sorry for you bud!

One of the previous posts was correct and I need to remember this better: don’t feed the trolls.

EDIT- The penguin guy is the hilarious one...to be clear. I've thoroughly enjoyed discussing this with the rest of you.

If you think this video was bad, take a look at his review of the recently discontinued LS500.

He seems to highlight the items people complain about with all cars nowadays. Certainly 223 owners have mentioned the overall cheapification with plasticy parts and capacitive buttons, creaks/rattles, unintegrated screens, and heat produced by the turbo location.
The repairability stuff is particularly noteworthy. He argues there were some inexplicable design choices that will hinder reliability long-term, and use of cheap plastic hoses that could have easily been higher quality like in the recent past. There are reasons for this, but not much of it benefits the consumer.

He also makes sure to state that the ride and quietness is vastly better than the 222.

I fully agree and well said. One might accept the use of cheap plastic hoses if am not keeping the car for a decade, and the same for the reliability and quality issues, but the overall cheapening, creaks, rattles, and other interior issues you mentioned are embarrassing for the brand. You’d have to be a virtually blind fanboy to ignore them or argue that they don’t matter for the consumer. They obviously matter a lot, at least given how many loyal folks have left the brand or skipped this generation.

I don't think anybody has ignored them or said they don't matter, certainly I have not. However they are solvable even though you shouldn't have to solve them. My point is they don't negate everything positive about the car. Once they're solved its a great car. Mercedes has LONG struggled with creaks and rattles in their interiors, there are videos complaining about that in the 222 also, tons for the GLS etc. I'm a pragmatic person, instead of being frustrated and dealing with the dealer and all, I just learned to address them myself and I have. Now I have a creak free car that I enjoy.

G70 7 Series...full of the same kind of press on interior creaks and cracks, better for sure but the issue still exists.

I do not believe interior creaks and rattles that don't develop until after 10k+ miles into ownership are keeping people away from the car. I think what has turned buyers off from the car is the styling of the interior vs the previous model and how that appeals to the car's target demographic (or more specifically, doesn't appeal to them).
