NAV reset while driving

Driving at night, back to Maine yesterday, through snow squalls, the brightness of the ambient lights was distracting so reached over to Settings and lowered the intensity. Granted, I was driving in uncomfortable conditions so my finger aim might have been a bit off. But when I went back to the home screen, the driving directions had disappeared. Went back to "where to" then "previous destinations" and all the 15 or so previous destinations were gone. Manually input the address to reactivate the NAV and all was fine. But the "previous destinations" never came back. Any idea what might have happened??

Bug/Glitch of the system. From what I recall, losing previous destinations, presets and stuff has been an ongoing MBUX bug/issue. That's not to say that you couldn't have accidentally tapped something. Goes to say that touchscreen Infotainment systems are extremely distracting and having to go into the settings to adjust something deep down in the menus should be done by pulling over first. That's not to say that Infotainment systems that use physical controls such as jog wheels are necessarily less distracting if they require concentration and you end up starring at the screen for an extended time instead of the road. I recently drove a VW Golf where the Infotainment system had a feature that locked the UI if I kept using it while driving for too long. It put up a message quickly to say that it's locking the system for safety and I had to wait before it unlocked. This kept happing as I was browsing the vast number of radio stations on DAB+ (this was in Europe) to find a station I like. I instead had to use the next/prev buttons on the steering wheel to change stations, which don't require taking one's eye of the road. Goes to show how physical controls for commonly used functions is simply superior.

FWIW, the last W223 loaner I drove kept crashing CarPlay consistently after around 5 minutes, so it was nearly impossible to navigate anywhere. Seems the more recent EQ loaners I had were fixed. Maybe you are not running the most recent MBUX version. While some updates are pushed out over OTA, if I remember correctly there's been a major upgrade that must be installed at the dealership, but this is all from memory.

Yep, its a glitch. Happens every once and a while. I also have to manually reboot MBUX at least a couple times a month by holding the power button down because of music playback issues though MBUX. Far from a perfect system.

I also find every once and a while it just deletes all of my saved destinations and MBUX shortcuts...because it wants to lol

In my GLS, I had very similar incident a few times. After several trips, I noticed it always occurs when the MBUX receives a notice/notification of an accident/radar/hazard next on the road. That caused the MBUX navigation to stop and reset. It stopped doing it ever since I enabled full map/navigation view on the cluster instead of the infotainment, not sure why.

My CarPlay navigation, however, doesn't stop even when both are activated simultaneously.

I will try to deactivate road hazard notifications, if I can, and see if that will solve it. Maybe that's also what's causing it in the S-class? It doesn't bother that much me anyway; couple seconds and I can activate my navigation route again.

Question: is the music playback issue related to switching audio or phone call voice back from phone to the car speakers? I've had this issue and couldn't find a solution for it other than manually switching the call speaker option back to (Bluetooth) from my phone.

No, its tied to restarting the car. Sometimes the system doesn't want to load up the music app requested and play from it and the only way to make it do that is a reset of the system. This is when using a music app like Tidal or Apple Music directly through the MBUX interface, CarPlay etc works fine.

My bad. When I started the car this morning I noted I didn't get the usual "Good Morning' greeting. Checked and...the car was no longer set to my profile. Reset it and...the previous destinations reappeared. So I must have touched the wrong spot on the screen when I was driving and attempting to adjust the interior lighting. Also explains why my NAV directions disappeared. It thought somebody else was suddenly driving.....
