Uhm how would you be able to blame this on the ESP when you weren't even driving the car? And how was your cousin able to get the car in a 4 wheel drift in the first place? I can't really compare a c230 to a s55, but if try to fishtail the back during a turn with ESP on, it'll simply cut my throttle and make sure the car is going the right way. I can't even peel out with esp on, it'll just not let me.

Yep, there's no way ESP can allow a drift... i had an e55 and with ESP on i had a tought time launching the car.... thats totally drivers fault.

Yeah i think its the drivers fault, not enough skill ? not knowing the limits of the car, and the biggest mistake not wearing seatbelt. When ever i go track racing or take on/off ramps very fast 65 mph plus without a seat belt i cant control the car for ****zzna-- i cant even control a regular turn at regular speed without a seatbelt... think what happen here is the driver was unskilled/pushed the limits of the car/didnt know the limits of the car/and the biggest mistake he was not wearing a seatbelt. I personaly think he could have controlled it better. It seems like your cousin stomped on the breaks on the middle of the turn-thats not good.. anyways hoppefully everyone involve in the accident is okay and nothing serious really happen to them!

If it ws any other marque of car, your cousin would be dead. And why was he driving without a seat belt? That's just incredibly stupid, they're there for a reason.

The ESP in my MB's have saved my *** more times then I can remember. What your cousin did was take that car to HIS limit, and without a seat belt to keep him planted in his seat, he was unable to correct the car once it tried to bring everything back under control. Go too far, and physics win every time.

ESP does not affect steering.

It does apply brakes and cut the throttle position back in certain circumstances though. Anytime the yellow triangle on the cluster is blinking means the adhesion limit of the tires has been reached and the ESP is either braking certain wheels to keep the car straight, cutting the throttle position back to reduce power, or a combination of both things. Again STEERING IS NOT AFFECTED.

CL55 have same problems?

Does the CL55 have the same potential problem as that initially suggested on this thread?
Do the pre 2000 E55s have this issue?

211 E55(sold) & 80cc shifter kart
ok everyone i see were back on the esp is god bandwagon, I cannot comment on the photos right now, sorry, the wreck has turned into a criminal investigation and i do not want to give anymore details about accident. its no big deal but most of what everyone has speculated about is probrably true, photos were sent from either ins investigater or impound yard don't know how they got tagged. in the end i can say if they weren't in a S55 they would probrably be dead. this is not a thread about bashing S55's just a thread about how safe the car is(structural and air bags) but esp can work against you at times. thats it, the end.
