S63 vs S65

Looking to give a friend some advice and obviously it is hard to judge at this point...but he was debating between an S55 and S65 prior to the news of the new S-class. Although I think the S65 is an unbelievable machine, it does seem as if that excess power over the S55 is hardly useable. One point that may be important is that he has two SL55's so I was thinking that the S55 may be a bit of a disappointment and that the extra power of the S65 would be fun, don't know if it would be enough to justify the difference in purchase price and depreciation however.

Also, I'm a bit confused in regards to the S63...

So does this mean that there may be a 2008 S63 with a bi-turbo ML156 engine?

Someone steer me in the right direction please

I think this will be the deal:

First versions of the new AMG S-Class wil be S65 with the 6l V12 bi-turbo.

Lateron a new 6l V8 bi-turbo will replace it, probably with same or more Hp.

My guess is (this is strictly guessing) that the car with new V8 bi-turbo wil either be called S65 or S66.

They apparently are not going to bother to stick a lowly 500Hp engine in the new S-Class AMG. Especially since the ML63 will have more than 500Hp to begin with.

I think the new upcoming CL-Class, new SL (in the far future) and the S-Class will have 600+Hp engines to 'separate the men from the boys'. The 'boys' eventually being the CLK, SLK, ML, R, etc. which will get the 6.2l V8 which was recently introduced.

Thanks for your response Sprins....additionally, does anyone have any advice in terms of the pricing between the S55, S65, S63....

1. Has the S55 price dropped significantly with the introduction of the S65
2. Will the unveiling of the new S-class, which will eventually result in a new S-class AMG model, have any effect on the price of the S65 in the near future?
3. Do you expect the S63's pricing to be in the same ballpark as the S65?
4. Anyone know the average current price to purchase an S55 or S65....

Thanks for any info you can offer.

MB just cancelled development of the new M157 6 liter V8 BiTurbo last week.

So which engine will be used in the S 63 AMG?

That's too bad.

Rumor has it there won't be an S63, but an S65 with the old and faithfull 6l V12 bi-turbo. Or an S55, but I don't believe that. Why have 3 500Hp engines in the lineup (lets not forget the 5.5l V12 from the 600)?

¿What do you think?

Are you this Wolfgang: http://www.whnet.com/4x4/ ?

Update: This just in: https://mbworld.org/forums/s55-amg-s65-amg-s63-amg-w220-w221/125316-2007-2008-s-65-a.html#post1332847

Cool. I used to visit your website all the time when I was shopping for my W163. Eventually I bought an AMG. Good site, helped me through the delivery wait.

Cheers!

Thanks for the comments.

PS. It used to be a S600 coupe (W140) and 600 (W100) site before I got into this ML thing..

Ok so based on what we have found out so far....am I to assume that they are simply keeping the S65 in its current form for the time being, or will they be keeping the 6.5l biturbo and dropping it into the new generation S-class? If so, what year should I expect the transition between the 6.5l biturbo W220 and the 6.5l biturbo W221?

It seems like a mistake to buy a W220 S65 at this point in time, as any new S-class AMG is going to kill its value....I've already read a number of posts about rapid depreciation since the W221 was announced.

I don't think you can still order a W220 now that the W221 is out. We'll have to wait for the S65 W221 if we want to buy one new I think. Anyone?

That depends. Do you want a 2 year old low milage completely depreciated S-AMG W220 or a spankin' new W221 S-AMG in 1 years time?

If I can get my hands on a W220 I'll do it. It's good enough for me, and I still think the old S looks better (=understated) than the new one (for me).
