s55 top speed

Hi,
Last night me and a friend of mine in my car were cruising on freeway and decided to see what's the top speed. I thought it governed at 155 but I got to around 142 (very ez) and that's it. Eventhough there's a lot of power left and the rpm only 4k.
Do I have to disable the esp or something?

all you need to do is wait 10 years till you are old enough to ask drive one.

There must be something wrong, but the dealer certainly won't do top speed runs to figure it out.

The acceleration above 140 is a little slower, but I have never owned a car that went to 150 easier than this one. My SL500 would do 150, but used more road to do it.

When you go to the dealer, don't mention the top speed thing or they may not take seriously. Tell them you have a misfire or a hesitation. That way they can check ignition, fuel delivery, or possibly intercooler pump.

Good Luck.

Went to dealer yesterday and have a talk with a machenic and he didn't even know what's the top speed limit on this one I said it's 155 and he asked me "how do I know that?", I said everybody own these cars should know, and even the mannual says so.

I don't know, I might have to give it another try to see. It's only 13k miles now

One of their members has a video of his S55 AMG w/RennTech ECU and boost kit running up to 174 MPH. The car is otherwise stock.

My 2006 S65 with the renntech chip seems to have had the same problem at 165MHP.
Is there a limiter that I can have removed so I can go faster?

Tried it again today. I floored it this time to make sure I hit the kick down button underneat the gas pedal. Same thing Get to 142 so very ez and that was it. S mode, abc off, esp on. But I think abc and esp have nothing to do with it because I got to 142 so ez.

At those speeds you definitely want ABC ON. I'd definitely have it checked out.

You can't turn ABC "off." It's the only suspension you have . You can turn off the sport mode, which gives you a little softer setting. Neither mode is unsafe at high speed.

Yeah I can turn on or off "abc sport" mode. Mine has that button.

I don't know what should I ask the dealer. Or just like PA55AMG said about misfire or hesitation?

Another thing, remove the airbox and look to the MAF sensor, i know the mercedes air intakes don't like k&n filters too much, over here on my country i replace the air filter ones each month or two.
I know that will not do anything for the top speed but it not good for the acceleration, and if you have a kompressor 55 it might do something with the car...just look at it you will not lose anything

My car is s55 '04. It feels like nothing at that speed, very stable. No shaking at all.

I've heard things about changing k&n on these cars. Some cars will have "check engine" light on and some won't. So far so good on my car.

So do the K&N filters work ok?

I was thinking about getting them in my car.....should i expect anything??
mkbc32 Did you do any mods to increase your mph to 185 or was it just stock with the limiter taken out?

That’s write my brother 55ML didn’t like it at all.

You need to chick with your dealer and see what they will do, I’m sure there is some problem, tell them there is misfiring so they will chick your car.

No at all, it was a stock car and it was a 1999 model when its first lunched, it was the first produced S55, imagine S55 with stock spoiler  and it was easily to reach this speed, I have some pictures and I’ll try to post it here

I am the second owner of an ‘03 S55, purchased with 77,000 miles on it. I am not sure if there has been any modifications made but I’ve had the car 158 mph and it still seemed to be climbing. Have read the cars are capable of near 190 mph with mods, not sure how true this is
