I think what he was asking ( and if he wasn't I'm asking )
If you remove the speed limiter, and have moded the car to go that fast, will the digital speedo still read your speed correctly if you go over 200?

I think the question is about the analog speedometer. It should be the same as on the other 63s. The 65s have 220 MPH dials, but it may be reserved for them.

The Current S63 in Europe Have a 320km/h, so in the US it should be a 200MPH, like the W220 S55.

That makes sense. A delimited 65 can just break 200 on a good day, but I would doubt the same is true of a 63 without extensive mods that probably aren't yet available.

BTW, the non-linear speedometer is very clever. The spacing for 0-100 is wider than for 100-220. 80 is at 12 o'clock. It makes it easier to read the difference between, say 80 and 85 than on my wife's C55. It has a 200 MPH clock but it's linear and 100 is at 12 o'clock.

I think the 200 MPH speedometer on the S class is non-linear, but I forgot how my S55 dial was configured.

The S63 Has 160km (100mph) at 12 0' clock and appears to be linear
S65 has 180km (110mph) at 12 0' clock and also appears to be linear.

So, it looks like both the W221 S65/S63 speedometers are different than the W220 S65/S55.

Are you referring to a European or US W221 S65? I wonder if that could be a US vs. Euro difference or, in fact, a 221 change. It's a shame if it's another sacrifice to decontenting. I still miss the memory rear-view mirror from the early 220s. And the valet truck lock. And the pen compartment in the glovebox door. All removed over the life of the 220.

There is no difference between the US & Euro Speedometers other than they are in kph/mph. It is unfortunate that the penny counters at mercedes do delete some of the neatest/unique features that make the Benz stand out from all others.

I noticed the 200 MPH speedometer on the CLK63 Black Edition is non-linear (counts by 20 until 120 and then by 40). Very odd.

Here's my half-awake assessment of the non-linearness of the speedos.

The "constant WOT needle angular velocity theory" is cute but pretty far-fetched. The fact that most drivers spend more time below 100 than above 100 means that extra precision there makes sense. I drove from northern to southern California yesterday and covered a fair number of miles at 100+ (touched 145 a couple of times) and remind you that when there's a Highway Patrol car just ahead of you on I-5, you really care about the difference between 75 and 80. On the other hand, if you and a 997 are playing tag at 130, being off by a couple of MPH is not your biggest concern.
