As you know, we will be waiting anxiously for good quality acceleration videos of your S63 Up to the limiter if possible so we can compare with the S65 videos on youtube.

Forget about 0~60 & 1/4 mile...when a car pulls away from 90 up as that S55 did, it tends to leave mere mortals awe struck!!

I found my exit and thought..."I got to get me one of those".
Id still go for the S600, more torque and a wonderful v12 + the car is really underrated...

Speaking of S55 I saw one on the MBUSA website in San Jose Dealership S55 2004 for $59K.... hmmm see if I can negotiate with them to bring it down to $55k. I don't want to pay over $700mo for it unless I put some serious down $$$ for it.

Close...but W211 is 4.3 sec. but I know the S55 has more HP. I've been wanting one of these two cars for awhile and can't really decide yet.

Does the S55 really have more hp? I thought Mercedes rated the E55 at 469 hp because of marketing purposes. The E55 makes closer to 490-500.

This I don't know, but since they are so close in times, it must be that the
S55 has more HP to make up for the weight difference, and thus making it so close.

I will , today I'm going to check out the one they have in San Jose, CA. They're asking $59K, 47K Miles S55 2004. Thinking of if they can bring it down to $55K.... ah we'll see.

Good luck with the S55. One piece of advice: strongly consider extending the CPO warranty to three years (from the one that it comes with). Let's say the car was delivered 12/12/2003 . The standard CPO warranty will expire on 12/12/2008. That year will go by very quickly. An extension to 12/12/2010 (still 100K miles) will cost an additional $4,000 (retail). You have to purchase the extension when you purchase the Starmark car.

Since the dealer makes a profit on the warranty extension, they have room to negotiate with it. Include it in your discussions. That $4K can pay dividends many times over.

PS. I've bought seven cars from Smythe. If you need any advice about the process, PM me.

Newbie here........

But by no means new to speed or Benz hardware. One of the other great things about the S55 is the braking. It is astounding how fast the brakes will bring that much mass to a stop.

The car is really a strange creature. It has the performance and manners of a car about half its weight, yet can be tossed around or have the rear tires melted with ease. I've owned a lot of fast things in my life, but this one has really grown on me. I looked at the 600s as well, but there is simply too much heat generating hardware packed in too small a space. Their service history has not been much to talk about as a result.

There's been some discussion about the acceleration from freeway speeds. I've had an interesting "problem" with mine. We all have become accustomed to climbing into the throttle a few seconds before you are actually ready to pull out and pass. The S55 will teach you not to do that because you come close to rear ending the car you'd intended to pass. It is a car that can make you grin and still take everyone to dinner in style. I also am pleased with the mileage. The only downside is that it is a car that needs a warranty.

So true. I've been trying to make comparisons to 7's I've owned (745, 750, 760) w/ and w/o Dinan. The 63 is clearly a better all-around mix. I'm very partial to naturally aspirated motors, so it was enjoyable to compare. "Strange creature" is an apt description in a good way!

Regarding accelerating at highway speed: I friend of mine was driving my 63 (He's used to driving a 6-cyl X5). He was looking to pass left and glancing in the mirror while accelerating... We would have ended up underneath the rear tandem of a 53' trailer had I not "gently" redirected his attention. The speed burst crept up on him!!!

Overall, after 750 miles, every bit fun as an old M5 I had, maybe better for my present driving preferences.
