All US 63's call for 93 and 93 is available in many States, just none in CA.
I wish it was a mistake but it seems the 63 ECU screams for a 93, it smooths out shifting and gives the car some real nice top end. I have 11000 miles now and there is definately a performance difference between 91 and 100. There are a few stations with 100 at the pump, course it is 8.50/gallon. Mixing requires appx 5-6 gallons of 100 and fill the tank completely with 91. I reently filled up with 100 and went a few hundred miles, car at idle and everywhere through the tach was smoother. I even got the car to shift out of first @ 7000 rpm.

I put an occasional tank of 100 in my 65 and it definitely digs it. I've been driving up and, now, down the coast from CA to WA the last two weeks. The 92 in Oregon didn't seem to make much of a difference vs. the 91 in CA.

It may appreciate the extra octane, but it's mapped for 91:

or are all US based vehicles 91.
91 seems ok but like you said 100 wakes it up , I just wish I could have 93.

2006 SLR & 2008 S63
so far so good. one tank of mixed 110/101/91 octane and she has been running amazing and quicker for certain. i raced what looked like an 08 S65 (dealer plates and looked brand new) and remained within what i would consider a respectable trailing distance. My service advisor told me not to run the 110 often tho and not to use much if i do. he also said if i mix half a tank of 101 with half a tank of 91 that i would be fine.
I just mixed 5 gallons 110 with 1/2 of tank 93 Wow my S 63 woke up now it almost as fast as my SLR

Here in Michigan, we get 94 octane fuel at almost every corner. That is what I use regularly on my car. I do not have a frame of reference as to other fuels, since I haven't used any, but I would be wary of trying higher octanes, since I have heard the possible negative effects of clogging, etc.
Though I have a highly tunable car, I have stayed away from everything that messes with the way the car was set from the factory. Barring any ECU remapping the original owner did to it, the car is bone stock.
I am waiting anxiously for the facelifted SL and to see which is going to be the top-dog AMG SL. I have finally settled into getting a brand new one to replace my current car, and I am not sure I need four doors and seats any longer.
