2008 S65 Pics

Here are some pics of my new 2008 S65. I got it Tuesday, so I haven't put a lot of miles on it yet. It sat in Baltimore almost a month before Mercedes released the 2008 models.

It has the ability to play a DVD when parked. I probably won't use that. The NAV system can display in birds-eye view, which is kind of neat.

The car has torque at almost any speed, which I enjoy. This is a major reason why I bought this model. Don't know if I will mod it yet. I think I'll drive it a while before I make that decision.

The exhaust note has a bit of a snarl to it, but you need to stand in back of the car to hear it well. I had an SL600, and there was no snarl there.

I'm a happy camper.

What happened to the headlight washer switch near the lighting controls? Did they move it or just integrated it into the windshield washers like on VW's?

Thanks, all, for your kind words.

If I understand the manual, the headlight washer comes on after every 5 times that you use the windshield washer. And, I think this resets every time you start the car. There is no direct control of the headlight washer. I wonder who at MB thought that one up.

Congrats...one of the world's greatest cars...

Would never "mod" any new AMG/F/P....would always rather bet on the R&D infrastructure/safety testing of AMG/F/P than any aftermkt shop where the "vast" R&D expce is a handful of customer cars (if that)....would save my "mod" money and simply trade-in sooner to get a new latest/greatest-tech AMG....

Incredible car, congrats. Other than the new features you mentioned on 08 models, check out the traffic feature, I love that. even when you are just in the Nav map it shows you icons of traffic jams on the map. Enjoy.

Wheels?

Also, Just curious, Why would they put normal wheels on a 65 for 08 instead of the powder coated ones? Will they have an AMG performance package that will include upgraded wheels? I just didn't think they would have better looking wheels on a 63, most people, including myself, were expecting something new on the 08 65.

That's ridiculous, VW got TONS of complains for integrating the headlight washers into the wipers!! Many of their new cars now don't have headlight washers (with HIDs). The separate headlight washer was something I liked about MB.

I never thought that when I got delivery of my 07 S65 that I would mod it... After about a year I got bored of the car and wanted to change it.... Renntech stage 3, I would HIGHLY recommend... AMAZING performance over the stock performance. My car is SOOO much more fun to drive with the mods. You can PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks. Until I get it broken in, I won't know if it's "enough" for me. What's included in a stage 3? I looked at the Renntech site, but all I could find was package 1 or 2.

Stage 3 adds the intercooler pump. It keeps the car about 15-20 degrees cooler. I originally had stage 2 done and added stage 3 about 2 weeks later. I've noticed that because the engine runs cooler, the power band lasts a little bit longer too.

As far as if it's "enough"??? I'm telling you right now.... It's NEVER enough.. People like us who buy V12 bi-turbo 600hp stock engines are always looking for a little bit more...

I'm telling you right now to plan on doing it. I would put about 6 or 7,000 miles on it and then order the parts and have it done. Talk to Adam from Euroelites on this website and he can direct you to someone who knows what they are doing in your local area.

I have noticed that the MY08 S65 is not in the 2008 S class brochure nor is it on the MBUSA website.

Have they halted sales in the US?

No, the car is still on their website, but you can't build your own anymore. It is a special order vehicel for 2008.

Thanks. I didn't order any special interior so I assume the diamond pattern is standard. When I ordered the car, I put all the options then available on it, except for individual rear seats. When it arrived, the only option listed was the iPod kit. Everything else was made standard equipment. So, the car comes fully loaded.
