2008 S65 Irritants

I've had my 2008 S65 for a month now. Great car. I have a couple of irritants.

The window sticker lists the car as limited to 130mph. On an AMG? WTF? My sales guy checked with MB and the rep thinks the limit is actually 155mph. However, he has to check further. If it is 130mph, it's probably because of the max speed for snow tires.

The Park Assist feature (bending blue lines in the back-up camera) is disabled because some people scraped their wheels using it and blamed Mercedes.

These are the kind of things you get when people won't take responsibility for their own actions. I'm pi$$ed.

I thought the park assist was disabled because of the distroninic on my S63...I have seen screen shots of some S63's and presumably 65's with park assist enabled without distroninc....if that is not the case maybe the dealer can flash new software and turn it on.. I ned to investigate...

Park Assist feature works fine on my 07 S65 and I do have distronic.
Mine is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph) and I believe you have an option to raise it to 300 km/h (186 mph). But what I was told by my local dealer it will cost about 8k euro

130 should be fairly easy to get to. Just find a good stretch and see for yourself. If you are scared to try then you dont have much to worry about the limiter ever kicking in.

Swing the car over to my house and my wife will run it up to check it out.

There is no stretch of road around here where I can drive this fast safely. It's hard to find an open enough slot in the interstates to do this. Country roads are either not straight enough or have too many road/driveway intersections. Maybe I could sneak onto the local airport runway.

Find a local racetrack (Not Drag strip ¼ mile) call them up talk to the manager and test your S65 to 130 or 155mph then you will know. They will have you sign a waiver releasing them of any crash out come you may have during your test and charge you maybe $100. Best money you will ever spend!! Bring the boys and enjoy Helmets required!

you are a pu$$y all you need is a measley 1/2 mile of interstate! Start at 80 MPH and punch it you will know in about 10 seconds if the limiter is 130 or higher. Jeez ... why did you even buy that car??

I live in Miami and when I had my E55 I hit the limiter (158MPH) more times than I could count, go out late at night on a tuesday.

I recently took a friend's standard Corvette with Z51 Package and manual trans. to over 150 mph in little more than half-mile stretch of freeway. It will require you to find a far shorter route to verify your sticker's claim. It seems you are too reluctant (read: scared) to try this yourself--you are about 10 seconds of acceleration from finding out the truth.

Last Sunday at ~ 7:30 a.m. I took mine to 140 with ease as I merged onto one of the local HWYs. It feels like you are going ~ 80-90 in a normal car. The new S65 is not only a total beast but the comfort and control you feel at high speeds is sureal.

Driving fast in these cars is easy. I've had other fast cars, mostly Mercedes and Porsche. I'm not concerned about me and speed. My poorly made point is that I won't drive fast without considering what else is happening on the road at that moment.
