I have a 2002 S55 with the keyless go feature. I asked the dealer to turn off the "chip card remove" reminder message and chime. The dealer says that the chime cannot be turned off.

I don't recall hearing this irritating chime prior to having my car in for repairs. The instrument cluster was removed and the car was in the shop for over a month. After getting the car back I got the irritating chime. It goes on as soon as the door is opened (entering the car) and after shutting off the ignition. it keeps chimming. Note although i have keyless go, I am not using the KG card and it is nowhere near the car.

For those with keyless go, do you have the same chimming? Please let me know if you have it or not. There is only one dealership in Hawaii and they are not willing to address this issue.

My keyless-go does ot chime at all. The only chime I think is if you don't have your seat belt on or if you undo your belt before turning the car off.

Johan,
Thanks for your response. By identifying owners without the chime will help me with my case to have the dealership remove the chime.

My car had the instrument cluster replaced and the chime has been present ever since. I want them to remove the reminder chime, just the way it was before the service. It chimes when I enter and exit the car, exteremely irritating.

Any other users that can help me out with their experience? Thanks

Steve from MBenzNL will be in town later this month. He can turn off your chime for you. I had it done in the e-class and its so nice and quiet now w/o that reminder chime.

My brothers CLS has that annoying chime. Makes me want to light a kitten on fire. But it doesnt make any sense to me because what kind of jacka$$ takes the keyless go key out of their pocket when they get in the car???? (my brother) might as well have saved the 1k and go the whole nine yards by putting the key in the ignition.

And about Steve, how much does he normally charge for that kind of thing?

Dealership can do it also via STAR...some just don't want to.

As Timeless said, the dealership can turn the chime off. Its quite easy and takes no more then 2 minutes to do so.

I have the Keyless Go option in my car. If you want to turn the 'chime off' the only way I personally have found to do so is to hit 1 of the two buttons in the picture below. You can't turn it off FOREVER but temporally if you are hanging out around the car or with the door open etc etc.

Not my car some random internet pic but I made arrows showing where the buttons are I'm talking about.

Update response from the dealer
The service advisor brought a tech to discuss the issue. He says that when the new gauges were installed, the software was updated and he believes that the new software does not allow the chime to be toggled off by the computer. He is going to continue to work on it and will do what he can to eliminate the chime. I will hopefully get the car back soon. Update to follow.

thanks for all your responses

Uhh, I'm not sure if I'm talking about the same chime or not, but I was one of those jackasses one time. I wish I had that chime back then as I was dropped off at our hotel while my wife took off with the car. I , for some odd reason, was not driving and was sitting in the passenger seat and everything goes as normal but I STILL HAD THE KEY IN MY POCKET as I walked away from the car to go inside the hotel . I don't know if chimes and messages went off or not, but I get a call from my wife that she is unable to start the car at the store she went to. I had to walk 2 miles to get her.

Keyless door chime
DC, I just came back from the dealer complaining about the same thing. Everytime the door is open, there's a chime that reminds us not forget the key (on keyless go). My advisor is the AMG specialist and he said that chime can not be turn off or disengaged.

I strongly dislike it becasue I've developed a mute ear to it. As a result, I've left the lights on twice because I grown to ignore the chime. I've owned a Mbz for over 20 years and I've never left the lights on becasue a buzzer or chime reminds me of somthing. But on my S class it chimes no matter what. There's got to be a better solution. I'm thinking of writing Mbz USA.

Same damn problem
I have the same annoying problem, after my car was serviced, they did a mandatory software update and the stupid chime is on even if the key is nowhere near the car. My dealer said there is no way to disable it. I have been dealing with it for about six months and I swear my blood pressure raises every time I hear the stupid thing.

Checked all around SDS and there is no coding for the chime in the instrument cluster.

Looks like it was removed with a 'recent' software update.
