S65 thoughts?
hey guys
i am looking at purchasing a new car soon and i have found a 2005 S55 but its got 74K on it. the price is $27K. but i want something with lower miles so i happen to find a 06 S65 with 26K miles and is local to me, priced at $59K but very negotiable. im thinkin i might just spend more money to buy the 06 S65 since its just that much more bad ***!!!
So, the question is, how reliable are these cars? still the ABC problems on this car i assume? any other things???
Anything i should look out for???
Appreciate the comments if you guys have any!!!

The cars themselves are pretty reliable........but, if and when something(it is a mechanical object after all)breaks, bring your AMEX, as it will be expensive. These cars might be cheap to purchase, but I see it every day, guy(or girl) buys one of these because the price is right, and then when something happens, they can't believe that it would be a $5000 repair bill. People forget that it is still a $200000 car to maintain and repair. Oh, and budget for at least 3 sets of rear tires the first summer you drive it.

If you run good tires on your 65 (PS2's) like I do, be prepared to go through a rear set about every 4k miles. At about $900 a set that adds up quick. My dealer also quoted me close to 5k for a brake job......so be aware. My car averages 13-14mpg with mixed hwy/city driving....so gas is a small cost as well. I'd never own one without a warranty.....a 3-5k repair is nothing on a 65. The good things is, it's faster than 90% of other street cars, it's reliable, comfortable, quiet and makes stupid amounts of torque. It's more fun than any car I've ever owned.

$27k to 59k is a big jump...if you can afford it do it as the 65 is well worth the premium( bigger brakes, way more power, uber rare)...if money may be an issue don't go near either car...

You would have loved the 06 S65. V12 and two turbo-chargers - although several thousand more than the 07 E63. I upgraded from the E55 to the S65 since the E63 dropped the super-charger. While the E63 has more horsepower than the E55, I have driven both and the E55 has that wonderful neck snapping ability on downshift.

Thanks Ted, appreciate the comments. I guess i just wanted it b/c i was not convinced of the quality of the E55 over the E63. Plus, the newer model and warranty played a large part. And i found it and bargined to get it WAY under WHOLESALE, so it was a no brainer. According to my math, i should be able to drive this car for 2 yrs and not pay for any depreciation.
As for the S65, it was a nice car, very quick and absolutely gorgeous! but, i got the service records on it and it had some major work done. i didn't want to even get near it, plus, it had no warranty left on it! thats a huge no no with that car!!! LOL
in the end, i decided, didn't need such a large car so i went with the e63.

I agree - warranty is a huge consideration for the S65. The repair bills can be incredibly outrageous. I also have heard some terrible S65 lemon stories - so make sense to steer clear of the one you described. The E63 is a rocket ship and handles great!
